Sailor Moon

I'll warn you right at the beginning... This will contain several spoilers to the American audience of this anime.  I'll be covering all of the seasons, including the one not shown in the U.S.

The Sailor Moon series is divided into five seasons:  Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, Sailor Moon SS, and Sailor Moon Stars.  It stars a clumsy, crying 14-year old girl named Usagi.  She receives special powers after finding a talking cat named Luna.  Usagi then become Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon in order to fight the forces of evil and find the Moon Princess.

As the first season, Sailor Moon, progresses, Sailor Moon finds other Senshi--Mars, Jupiter, Mercury, and Venus--and another cat, Artemis, to help aid her in her quest.  Also helping out the Senshi is a masked hero named Tuxedo Kamen.  He appears frequently to save the Senshi from the Dark Kingdom.  The generals of the Dark Kingdom are stealing people's energy and trying to locate the Imperium Silver Crystal.  Sailor Moon then learns about the history between the Moon Kingdom and the Dark Kingdom.  Usagi is revealed as the Moon Princess who was sent to the future Earth by her mother after the Moon Kingdom was destroyed.  The Sailor Senshi are reincarnations of the Princess' four guardians, and Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen is the reincarnation of Princess Serena's love Prince Endymion.  The Senshi and Tuxedo Kamen use the Imperium Silver Crystal and all their power to destroy the Dark Kingdom, but lose their lives in the process.  Well, in the Japanese version, anyway.   In the American translation, they all "lose their memories."

In the beginning of the next season, Sailor Moon R, all the Senshi regain their powers and remember that they are champions of justice.  Mamoru doesn't, however, which is very difficult for Usagi to deal with.  Two aliens named Ail and Ann arrive and begin stealing energy from the people to feed their Doom Tree.  This plot is kind of a mini-saga before the next major storyline begins.  The Senshi are helped out by Tsukikage no Kight, who turns out to be a split personality created by Mamoru's subconscious sense of duty toward protecting Sailor Moon and the others Senshi.  Usagi uses the Crystal to revive the Doom Tree, and everything goes back to normal.  But not for long.  A little girl who looks at lot like Usagi falls out of the sky a few days later.  This child is on a quest from the furture to save her mother and steal the Imperium Silver Crystal.   But she is followed by Rubeus and his four agents Catsy, Avery, Berti, and Prisma, members of the Black Moon.  Each of the four sisters are eventually healed and converted into normal humans.  Chibi-Usa, the little girl, discovers that Usagi is Sailor Moon and steals her crystal.  When she tries to return to the future, Rubeus attacks her.  The Senshi arrive and stop Rubeus from taking Chibi-Usa, but are kidnapped in place of the young girl.  Sailor Moon and Chibi-Usa get onto Rubeus' ship to rescue the other Senshi.  The ship and Rubeus are destroyed, and the Senshi return safely home.  But Emerald takes the place of Rubeus.  She is being lead by Sapphire and Prince Diamond of the Black Moon.  The Senshi discover that Chibi-Usa is from the future and plan to go there with the help of Sailor Pluto.  In the future, Usagi and Mamoru meet their future counterparts, King Endymion and Neo-Queen Serenity of the Moon Kingdom.  Chibi-Usa is captured by Wiseman, who is basically behind this entire thing, and turned into Black Lady.  Sapphire finds out what Wiseman has planned and tries to warn his brother, Diamond, before he is killed.   Diamond figures out what is going on after seeing the death of this brother and jumps in front of an attack meant to kill Sailor Moon.  He dies, and Sailor Moon then destroys Wiseman.

Sailor Moon S begins with Professor Tomoe working in his lab.  He is trying to open a gateway to another world, but an accident causes an explosion that kills everyone in the lab except for Tomoe, including his daughter Hotaru.  A Demon Master then appears to Tomoe and offers to revive Hotaru as long as the professor will work for him.  Tomoe agrees.   He is forced to search for Pure Heart crystals and the Holy Grail to open a gateway large enough for Master Pharaoh 90 to come through.  Sailor Neptune, Sailor Pluto   and Sailor Uranus (the Outer Senshi) appear, also trying to find the Holy Grail.     They know that the three Talismans that will form the Holy Grail are in Pure Heart Crystals.  During all this, Chibi-Usa returns from the future to train as a Senshi, Sailor Chibimoon.  The Outer Senshi eventually are forced to team up with the other Senshi.  They also discover that they are the keepers of the three Talismans.  They combine the Talismans and create the Holy Grail.  The Grail gives Sailor Moon new powers and a new transformation.  Hotaru then becomes Mistress 9, who opens a gateway for Master Pharaoh 90 to pass through.  She then is overcome by the power within her body and suddenly becomes Sailor Saturn, the Senshi of Destruction.  Sailor Saturn sacrifices her life to destroy Master Pharaoh 90.   Sailor Moon uses her new powers to revive Hortaru as a baby, and also brings back Professor Tomoe. This gives the two a chance to lead normal lives.

Sailor Moon SS follows the story of Helios, a priest of Elysion.  The Dead Moon Circus wants to use his powers for evil and are hunting for him in the "beautiful dreams" of the people.   Helios is only able to communicate with the Senshi through the dreams of Chibi-Usa.   The Senshi fight to protect Helios and to return Dream Mirrors that the Circus steal back to the people.  The enemies are eventually defeated, except for the Amazoness Quartet.  They become the Asteroid Senshi.  A voice calls to Queen Neherenia (the master of the Dead Moon Circus), urging her to attack the Senshi once again.  With this final attack, Mamoru is placed under an evil spell and Hotaru returns to her normal age.  This doesn't stop the Senshi, however, and Neherenia is quickly dealt with.

Sailor Moon Stars begins with the appearance of the new Senshi, the Sailor Starlights.  Chibi-chibi, a mysterious child, also appears.  Galaxia, the strongest enemy the Senshi have ever faced, also arrives on Earth.  She has taken over 80% of the universe.  Galaxia takes the "Star Seeds" of the Senshi of every planet she invades to gain power.   She can keep the Senshi alive without their Star Seeds by using special bracelets.   Galaxia searches Earth of human with Seeds that will increase her power even more.   The Starlights masquerade on Earth as a singing group called "The Three Lights."  When Galaxia begins destroying the earth, the Starlights and all of the Senshi join together to fight back.  The Inner Senshi fall quickly after Galaxia takes their Seeds.  The Outer Senshi soon follow, but not before they learn that Galaxia does not have a Seed of her own.  Sailor Moon falls next.  When her Seed is taken, Chibi-chibi powers up and a new Seed appears above the body of Sailor Moon.   She holds up her hands and the Seed transforms her into Princess Serenity.   Serentity then fights a short battle with Galaxia.  Chibi-chibi is then revealed as Galaxia's Star Seed and the entire story of the Senshi Wars is told.   Galaxia is then freed of the Choas trapped inside her.
