Lillian Belle May 1926 - +Thomas Everett Ratliff Gemima Webb Pennington was born at Glenwood, Ky., and was the daughter of John Martin Webb (s/o Elizabeth Pennington and James Webb) and Elizabeth Sturgill (d/o Gemima Wells and John Sturgill). She and John Washington Pennington were married on February 6, 1862, at the home of her parents by Henry Blankenship, Lawrence County, Ky. John W. served in the Union Army during the Civil War. John W. Pennington was a farmer and merchant in Denton, Carter County, Ky. He and "Mina" had 10 children. Jemima died as a result of pneumonia in 1927, and John W. died in 1928 from a heart attack when he was returning to his house (from the coal storage shed) with a bucket of coal. John Washington Pennington, and his sister Lucinda Pennington appeared on the 1850 and 1860 Lawrence County, KY. Census in the house of John W. Pennington and Rachel Morgan. In 1860 they were listed as Servants. I have been unable to determine the birth parents of John and Lucinda, but have determined that he was born in Carter Co., Ky., per the family Bible. Also unable to obtain a copy of John's Death Certificate. Lucinda married George W. Greene and was widowed in her 30's in West Virginia. Their children: Elizabeth, Bernice, Orville,Andrew Jackson, Paris and Thursay E Greene. She never remarried. Her death certificate lists her parentage as unknown. I'm at a block wall. If you have any information regarding the parentage of John and Lucinda, I would love to hear from you. I have obtained a copy of John W. Pennington, Sr.'s Last Will and Testament. He and Rachel Morgan were the grandparents of John W. and his sister Lucinda Pennington as they are identified as his grandchildren and bequethed $50.00 in his Will. I still don't know who their parents were. |
