Microsoft Corporation Software
Consultant – Retail Company August 2001 to present
I assisted with a highly visible Retail Analytics system. Performed source analysis and designed the ETL process. I also performed some data modeling of a star schema data store. I assisted with the data mining and analysis services implementation. The project led to many awards for MCS consulting staff. The project used SQL Server 2000 Server, Analysis Services, and Data Mining Decision Trees. Front end tools included Office XP, Proclarity and Office Web Components.
Consultant – Healthcare Company
I helped the company decide on a migration strategy methodology to move servers from SQL Server 6.5 on Windows NT 4.0 to SQL Server 2000 on Windows 2000. I also assisted the company with complex replication methodology minimizing downtime during the migration. Due to the fact that the company is in the Healthcare Industry and HIPAA compliance is of major importance, I assisted with a highly secure Active Directory integration. This led to a highly secure SQL Server deployment.
Consultant – Healthcare Company
I helped the company decide to deploy a high availability solution using Microsoft Windows Clustering technology for SQL Server 2000 Server. I also advised on the hardware choices, including storage. The system enabled the company to ensure that their data is always available.
Consultant – Transportation Company
I assisted a major transportation company decide on an OLAP technology. I instructed the Vice President and senior management on the concepts of OLAP. I also assisted the technical staff on a complete deployment of SQL Server Analysis Services with Proclarity, Office XP, and Office Web Components as a front end solution.
Consultant – Travel Company
I helped a major travel company decide on a decision whether or not to migrate to SQL Server 2000 from Sybase 11.9.2. I helped design a complex replication methodology. I also created a custom replication solution enabling two-way replication with Sybase without using any 3rd party tools.
United States Coast Guard Reserve Military
Reserve Officer – United States Coast Guard August 2001 to present
I assisted with the design and implementation of the Unit’s website. I assisted subordinates with career counseling. I also spent 2 weeks aboard a Cutter. I gave assistance by standing watch and relieving the XO in administrative duties, while he was on leave. Provided ship based computer support to inventory tracking system. Also performed general Boatswain’s Mate duties along side ship enlisted personnel. Current Rank is Ensign (O-1).
Unisys – US Services Government (military and federal)
Data Warehouse Administrator – US Air Force March 2000 to August 2001
I was member of a 6-programmer team where I helped in the development of a next generation data warehouse for the US Air Force. The system was migrated from Sybase Adaptive Server 11.5.1 on Windows 2000 to SQL Server 2000. The system imported data from many military sources including Sybase, Oracle, Cobol flat files, and various custom data sources. This system was developed for high availability and high security. Front end portions of the warehouse included SQL Server Analysis Services. The ETL portion was written using Sagent ETL tool.
Web Development – Federal Agency USDA
I assisted the US Dept of Agriculture with design and implementation of a database that presented information to field agents. The technology used was SQL Server 2000 and IIS 5.0.
Biometric Developer – National Security Agency
I performed database design and development for a system that analyzed and stored human facial structures and human iris scanning. The system was a proof of concept for the government that helped the intelligence community to decide whether or not to invest in the technology for security systems. The database and systems chosen were Windows 2000 and SQL Server 2000.
Lead Developer – US Air Force
I led a team of developers for the Cargo Shipping Decision System. This system helped the Air Force decide if shipping by commercial air carrier or military air carrier is cheaper. The system used Office products, VBA and SQL Server. The database also presented information using Active Server pages using Internet Information Server 4.0.
Security and Penetration Tester – DISA
I performed security testing on classified and unclassified Windows and UNIX Servers for unnamed groups within the Department of Defense. I performed security testing on COTS applications such as database servers and web servers. I am familiar with the standards for security from the National Security Agency, CERT, and other computer security groups.
Database Administrator July 1999 to March 2000
I was a member of a team of database administrators for a telecom billing solution provider. I performed development of database administration for a team of developers. The product I provided support for eventually became the flagship product for the company (Event Processing). I created a database complex source control standardization model for database objects using MKS Source Integrity version control software. I was recognized by the company for drastic decrease in database related support issues because of this model. I helped the company migrate customer database from SQL Server 6.5 to SQL Server 7.0. Furthermore, I also assisted with migrations from SQL Server 7.0 to SQL Server 2000.
Unisys - US Federal Government Group Government Systems (Military)
Database Administrator June 1998 to July 1999
As a member of a 6-programmer team, I developed a data warehouse for the US Air Force. The system was based off Sybase Adaptive Server 11.5.1 on Windows 2000. The system imported data from many military sources including Sybase, Oracle, Cobol flat files, and various custom data sources. The system was developed because of its high availability and high security. Front end portions of the warehouse included Cognos OLAP technology as well as a custom built genetic algorithm for data mining purposes.
Database Administrator June 1997 to June 1998
I wrote a series of shell scripts in C shell which installed and ran database scripts on customer owned database servers. I remotely administrated many Sybase and Oracle servers from a central location. I used a sophisticated system of version control based upon Clearcase Cleartool to ensure that many client systems were manageable. I also wrote a complex conversion process to migrate the Sybase 11 SQL Server to Oracle 8i. It proved to be a major success for the company. After the conversion, I modified the scripts so that Oracle and the IPAC database scripts could run on various flavors of UNIX including DEC, Solaris, HP, and Siemens Nixdorf.
Database Programmer March 1996 to May 1997
I designed and implemented a distributed database system based upon SQL Server 6.5 on the backend and Borland Delphi on the front end for a chain of mental health facilities. The system included a Patient Triage Module which handled returning and new patients. The system also included a Clinician Scheduling module which handled the facilities’ scheduling needs. The system included a Patient History module which tracked health records. The centerpiece of the system was the Billing and Reporting module. This module handled billing with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance carriers. The system based upon the technology gave the center an almost immediate return on investment.
