THE GIBSON GIRL
by
Charles Dana Gibson ~ Illustrator
~ 1867 - 1944 ~
It was said of Charles Dana Gibson that he drew people as they sometimes are and were always meant to be. Not only as they might look at their best, but as they might live with life at its brightest. Dreams came true, ideals were attained on his pages. With sentiment and humor he pointed a moral and adorned a drawing. Youth and beauty. Honor, decency and dignity. Love conquers all. Money isn't everything. These were his simple, universal themes. No wonder three continents and odd corners of the earth rendered him homage and loyalty.
Gibson books were found in the palace of the Czar of Russia after his exile and death. Gibson sketches decorated palm leaf huts in Central America, cabins in the Klondike, Australian ranch houses, Tokyo shop windows, and the cabooses's of American freight trains.

The haughty ~ BEAUTY ~~
An older couple (his parents or hers?) play cards while the young gentleman and lady flirt openly and outrageously.
"The Hero endeavors to decide upon an object for his affection" is classic Gibson. An attractive, well dressed gentleman surrounded by
images of lovely woman has to settle upon one (for the moment).
A lovely image of one of those famous well-to-do, much in love Gibson couples.
