Notes for Josias Leslie/Anna Maria Lyman

Josias and Anna Leslie adopted two children:
1. Stephen Williamson (Lyman) was legally adopted by his uncle and aunt, Josias and Anna Leslie, after the death of Stephen's mother Jennie Ritche. His name was then by law changed to Stephen Williamson Leslie.

2. Mary Anna (Cole) was legally adopted by her uncle and aunt, Josias and Anna Leslie, after the death of Mary Anna's mother, Mary Catharine (Lyman) Cole. Mary Anna was only 10 days old at the time of her mother's death. By decree of the court her name was changed to Mary Anna Leslie.
