Sweet and Sour Chicken (or Pork)
Ingredients
- 2 lbs chicken breast (or lean pork)
- oil
- 1 (20 oz) can pineapple chunks, drained (save the juice)
- 1 sm green bell pepper, cleaned and sliced
- 1/4 c onion, sliced (optional)

- 1 c pineapple juice (from the pineapple chunks)
- 1/2 c water (or chicken stock)
- 1/3 c vinegar
- 1/4 c packed brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp corn starch
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- red food coloring
Instructions
- Cut the chicken into bite sized pieces and saute with the oil in a heavy pot until almost done.
- Add the pineapple chunks, pepper, and onion and continue cooking.
- Mix the liquid ingredients with the brown sugar and cornstarch, add the meat and simmer until the sauce thickens and clears.
- Add two drops of red food coloring and mix in.
- Serve with rice.
Theory of the Dish
Because this doesn't have breading it is a lot less greasy than the kind you get in restaurants.
