Summer Royal - Western Breeds section

Sunday, 5th of January 2003

On Saturday, we woke at 5AM again. I went straight to the stable to give Will her breakfast and check on the state of her mane.
shavings all over her head First thing I saw was Will, with shavings all over. My immediate response was "ARGH!!! She's rolled overnight and has ground her mane into the floor, ripping out the bands. ARGH!!!"
but the bands were intact However I needn't have worried - her bands were fine and only needed a bit of a straighten up.
I'm bored This is as excited as Willow gets. It's nice having a laid back show horse for a change.
3yo QH filly - walk to the judge Our first class was 3yo halter. Here we are walking out for the judge ...
We won! and then getting the first place ribbon! Her first first at a Royal show.
And again outside, with our blue ...
In for the championship So we were eligable for champion QH female, but it wasn't for us ....
We came 7th in the amateur showmanship (stuffed up the spin), then came Hunter Under Saddle.
Keeping in mind that
  1. Willow has never been ridden in with other horses
  2. Willow has never been ridden at a show
  3. Willow has never been ridden in an indoor arena
  4. I have never competed in "Western English" ie hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation etc.
we did pretty well.
We came 6th in Junior horse Hunter under saddle. I scratched from Amateur Hunter Under saddle as I didn't want to overdo her at her first ridden show. So our final class was Hunt Seat Equitation.
Hunt Seat Equitation Here we are working on the rail after doing the Hunt Seat Equitation pattern. Will was getting tired and grumpy (like most three year old kids who've had a big day) and I was getting tired too. We came 4th, which wasn't bad really.
After the class we had some more photos taken by the professional photographer on the grounds, then headed back to the float to pack up - a major task! Then the long trip home .....
Why not check out Willow's 2002 Summer Royal photos
