Denny has experienced all the corrective institutions. She has been emotionally deprived all her life and was sexually abused by her 'carers'. To compensate, she has formed a fiercely loyal, fixated relationships, often with women whom she percieves have power- thus her early obsession with Shell.
Denny's first big crime was to set fire to her children's home; she was being moved out and had fallen in love with the social worker in charge. She didn't want to leave her, so the fire was her protest. After a stay at a young offenders' institution, she was transferred to Larkhall. Despite denny's violence and outward toughness, she's a rather pathetic character, desperately in need of love and attention. she'll do anything to get the limelight and show off, like the kid she still is.
Denny is a good fighter, being fearless to the point of stupidity. Despite her size, she is strong and works out in her cell and in the gym to maintain her physical advantage. Denny is not very bright and had not learned to read until she came too prison. She is very easily wound up by officers and inmates and can be set up to attack people's enemies. |
