Quick tips.

Don't leave Cds in the drive.
TIP 2:Did you know that if you drag and drop any program/drive/folder/control panel/my computer over the start icon bottom left windows will automatically make a shortcut in the start menu list.Max 13 I think, thus negating the need to access the desktop to get to these shortcuts. You can add/delete by right clicking on the start icon/open and then browse and add/delete inside or outside any of the folders,as these are only shortcuts(check that they are if you want to delete them by right clicking on them). You can customize any of the folders with shortcuts in there! and even put a folder with more shortcuts in it on the startmenu. Also you can make the width of the shortcuts smaller by truncating the shortcut names like Internet Mail to just mail etc.You can drag and drop then onto the,"Quick Launch bar" at the bottom as well in Win98/ME/XP

TIP 3: If you double click on the address in the link bar in IE4/5 it brings the links bar across, but did you know that you can drag and drop any program onto it and use it to launch the program from the hard drive.I use it to launch some of my net programs I don't want launching on bootup. You can copy and paste a shortcut to it like this as well.

TIP 4: If you right click on a shortcut/properties/shortcut,you can enter a shortcut key or combination thereof to the shortcut.I use a couple of the F keys for my mail and browser.Stay away from F1(help)F2 (Changename)F3 (find) F5 (refresh/update the screen).Be careful though with this as some games use them as well so remember what you did.The shortcuts have to be to programs that are somewhere on your start menu or dekstop AFAIK

TIP :5 There are several files installed with win9x that we are not told about.Do a find for files with the extension .txt(tips.txt is a good one) in the windows folder and have a read.

Internet Speedup Tips

I've tried most Internet Speedup programs and not found any that do a good job and also all the MTU settings etc have never done much for me,however I have found some things that WILL speed up on some systems.

Fixed Cache.

Internet Explorer/View/Internet Options/General/Temporary Cache Settings/Set to never. This will keep the pages better on your drive and speed up browsing, just remember to use the refresh button from time to time or if you are on a news page which gets updated regularly.

TIP For troubleshooting :Install TweakUI and set a 5 sec delay in it's boot tab and also set it to always show the startup menu then you don't have to keep pressing F keys on bootup.
