Them

I'm safe here, as the lights finally die into the darkness. They cannot
find me here. "They" being the men in gray suits and dark glasses and funny
white hair. They have benn following me in their long black Lincolns, watching,
smiling and pondering every second that I am alive.
I have locked myself up in a cheap motel; hiding in the bathroom. They
will come to get me I sure. They always know where I am. It will not take long
for them to realize that I have stopped moving, but at least I have time to sort
my thoughts and plan my next move or maybe my death.
Those men have funny eyes that glow an iredescent green. They are very
fast, in fact, it seems that they defy normal time and space. I cannot call them
human, because that would be lying.
How am I going to stop them from following me? What do I have that they
must desperately chase me for? I don't know the answers to those fearful questions.
If only this was a dream and I could wake up and go back to my own life. My arm is
red and bruised from the pincing it to awaken from this dreadful nightmare.
Vrooom Vrooom! Oh dear Lord, I can hear the gunning of the engine that pursues my life.
Lost in my thoughts, I have left myself no time to escape. Oh naive little me, to be
lost to them, not ever leaving this rinky dink town in New Mexico. Never seeing the
world beyond those hills.
I see the lights of their Lincolns bright and blinding. They are here,
their ominous presence is heavey in my heart. The knowledge that I will not see the
'morrow burdens me so, that I will not fight, they may have what little will I
have left.
Now, they surround my body and soul, staring down at me. In their hands
they carry bludgeons on sticks that seem to be lighter than the air they float.
One of them is carrying a large rectangle and I feel to weak to understand it all.
Then the darkness of the bathroom fills with brilliant light and I stare
wide-eyed at the colored balloons and listen to the words I never expected to hear.
"Jerry Major, your our next million dollar winner!"
