From the moment then Captain Sam Carter stepped into the briefing room in Children of the Gods, sparks flew between these two. Last time we checked, they were still flying. O'Neill had an inherent dislike of scientists, Carter holds a PhD in astrophysics and was determined to be treated like one of the guys. By the end of their first mission together, she had begun to earn the colonel's trust and respect. Over the next five years together they would save the world, a couple of times, meet new races and become friends. When O'Neill was stranded light years away, Carter admitted that she cared about him. Then, faced with the thought of losing her, O'Neill would realize that Carter was more important to him then he ever imagined. While being tests with device, they acknowledged their feeling for each other, but in the end, given their working relationship and respective ranks, choose not to act on those feelings. SJ Shippers all over are hoping that as the series winds to it's end that we'll get our happy ending.

 Most SJ Shippers have their own group of shippiest episodes. Now these eps don't need to focus on the relationship, or even Sam or Jack, but often have a moment that makes it on the shipper's list. Episodes like The Broca Divide, Singularity, Solitudes, Fire & Water, In The Line of Duty, Message in a Bottle, Secrets, 1969, Out of Mind, Into the Fire, Point of View, Shades of Grey, Upgrades, Divide and Conquer, Window of Opportunity, Beneath the Surface, Entity 2010, 2001, Desperate Measures and Descent all rank high on the ship scale for one reason or the other. Broca, because of the locker room scene, Fire & Water, Into the Fire for the hugs, Beneath the Surface for the feelings scene. And each shipper has a different measure of what is ship. Some need confessions, like the one in Divide and Conquer, other's only need to see a look or small gesture, such as Entity. And of course anytime we hear the POV music, we know it's a shippy moment.

The Sam and Jack list is one of the largest Stargate lists, and only one is a long list of sites, mailing lists and chats devoted to the couple. And the SJ shippers have not only survived, but persevered during what has become one of the nastiest wars in fandom. For that reason, and by popular vote on the Shipper Haven list, Sam and Jack are our shipper couple of the month.
