1-Birth of Vaitaal-1

There was a city named Dhaaraa Nagaree. Its king Raajaa Bhartrahari was a very lusty man. He used to pass all his time in enjoying pleasures and did not care much about his kingdom. His brother Vikramaaditya did not like his behavior so he got angry with him and went away from there. Now there was nobody to put any check on him so he started freely enjoying pleasures. Bhartrahari had six wives. Among them the youngest one was Padmaavatee. He loved her very much. He went to some prostitutes also. There was a prostitute named Chitrasenaa, King loved her very much.

One day a Braaman came to see King Bhartrahari. Although the King was busy in his pleasures, still he met him because he was a Braahman. Pleased with him, Braahman blessed him and gave him a fruit. He said - "Hey Raajan, Whoever will eat this fruit, he will never fall ill and he will always be young." The King got very happy to hear this. He greeted Braahman with great respect, and the Braahman went away after giving him thefruit. As the King loved his youngest wife Padmaavatee most, he gave that fruit to her. He told her the qualities of that fruit also to her.

Now, the queen loved the King's Saarathee (charioteer). He used to visit her often but secretly; so when he came next, she gave that fruit to him. He used to go to Chitrasenaa the prostitute, also, so he gave that fruit to Chitrasenaa thinking that she might like to live young for many years to come, and said - "Eat this fruit. After eating this fruit you will always be young and beautiful and will be able to earn more money." Chitrasenaa took that fruit, but didn't eat it. She was a prostitute, she didn't like her life. Suddenly she remembered the King Bhartrahari. She thought, "King is a lusty man, he should want to remain always young. Let me give this fruit to him so that I can get lots of money from him in exchange of this fruit." So when the King came to her, she gave that fruit to him. He got stunned to see that fruit and asked her where did she get that fruit. Chitrasenaa got scared hearing King's tone, so she told King's Saarathee's name.

King came to Padmaavatee straightway and asked her - "What happened to that fruit which I gave to you?" Queen could not guess anything, so she said with simplicity, "I ate it." The King said to her showing that fruit, "You are lying, you did not eat that fruit. See, I have that fruit." Hearing this Padmaavatee got scared. The King got that Saarathee killed by crushing him under the feet of elephant. This incident broke King's heart, and he became Sanyaasee abandoning all pleasures and comforts. He went to forest. Thus Dhaaraa city became a kingless city.

Vikramaaditya also heard this news. King's ministers called him to take care of the kingdom because people liked him very much. He came and started taking care of the kingdom. Only one month had passed taking care of the kingdom that one day a Dev (huge man) appeared in his bedroom in the night and challenged him for a duel fight. Vikramaaditya was very brave so he accepted his challenge and defeated him easily. The defeated man said to the King, "Go, I spare your life. I free you." Vikramaaditya got very surprise to hear this, he said - "You spare my life? I have already defeated you, how you can spare my life?"

That man said - "In fact I have come here only to save your life. This fight was only to test your might." Hearing this King got more surprised. He asked, "How?" The man said - "Do you know that there was a king here named Chandrabhaan? And your ancestors took this kingdom from him only?" Vikramaaditya said, "Yes, I know this."

The man said - "Now I tell you about Chandrabhaan. Once he went to forest for hunting. What he saw there, that a Tapaswee was hanging upside down from a tree and lived only drinking smoke. He got very surprised to see that and told it to his courtiers. He was very impressed with that Tapaswee so he admired him very much in the court. Now, there was a prostitute also present in his court. She started laughing hearing the King. The King asked - "Why are you laughing like this?" The prostitute replied - "O King, Who has been spared by Maayaa Moh in this world?" King reinforced himself, "No, He is not like that, he is a real Tapaswee." The prostitute said - "What makes you so sure about him?" King said - "Well, It seemed to me like that." The prostitute said - "If you permit me, can I show you some Charisma?" The King said - "Sure, If you can break his Tapasyaa, I will give you 100,000 gold coins."
