Shimadzu Class VD Software
....the ability to control a Shimadzu GC is still a dream!
According to an article entitled "Refining Functionality" which was
published in the August 2000 issue of Today's Chemist at Work, Shimadzu Class VP
(aka Class VD) still cannot control their own GC instruments. Shimadzu is currently
controlling their GC-14, GC-15 and GC-17 systems with an older 16-bit application
(probably called EZChrom or SleazyChrom as Terry Adams prefers).
Way back in August 1998, we told you not to wait for the GC control
that Shimadzu promised by the end of that year. Here we are two years later, and Shimadzu
still doesn't have 32-bit GC capability built into their Class VD software.... what's
wrong with this picture???
n.b. Shimadzu has run the release number on it's Class VD software up
to version 5.03.2 and they still cannot control a Shimadzu GC. At one time, Shimadzu was
thinking about controlling GC's from other vendors. If they can't control their own GC's,
then why would you think that Shimadzu could control a competitor's GC??? Why would you
want Shimadzu controlling anything in YOUR lab???
n.b. If Shimadzu doesn't have GC control, it makes one wonder how well their LC control
has been working. Here's betting dollars to donuts that Shimadzu Class VD software has
caused many customers to pull their own hair out in frustration! Remember, the Shimadzu
name is synonymous with bugs and bad experiences guaranteed!
n.b. Shimadzu changed the name of their EZChrom software product to Class VP in 1996.
Scientific Software (Pleasanton, CA) writes the source code for Shimadzu's Class VP (aka
Class Crap or *Class VD) software and uses the EZChrom Elite name exclusively in it's own
marketing campaign of the chromatography software product. (ThermoQuest also uses the data
integration source code from EZChrom and then adds their own instrument control code....
the resulting product is privately-labelled as ChromQuest.)
*Class VD is most appropriate since Shimadzu Scientific (Columbia, MD) is right down the
road from the veneral disease
capital of the US (aka The City That Breeds!)
