THIRUVALLUVAR

    He is a saint-poet of Tamil Nadu.  He lived before two thousand years.  His whereabouts are not definitely known.  Some critics say that he was born in Mylapore near Chennai.  He had written a classical work in Tamil called 'Thirukkural'. His poems comprise only two lines each.  It is so eminent that it has been translated into many other languages also.  It remains a guide book for the Tamilian way of life.  This book consists of thousand and three hundred and thirty poems divided into 133 adhikaras.  In these, he speaks of familiar life, saintly life, political life, premarital relationships and married life.  It may be termed as the law-book for the Tamilians.  The poems express Saiva Siddhantic thoughts in a clear light.  He did not leave anything untouched.  We can find in his book all that is necessary for a truthful and spiritual life.  It is applicable to all the ages.
