Let's talk about Quenya.

Hello, there! My name is Shohna Neumann. I have been fascinated with Quenya (the Elven language J.R.R. Tolkien invented) ever since first coming across it a few months ago. This handcrafted language is beautifully complex. Those two words completely sum up an entire language that is precious as well as quite amazing. When Tolkien first began actual Quenya is highly disputed, as archaic Quenya and LotR-current Quenya are quite different. All I know is the result of Tolkien's ideas was beautiful. I'd love to share this with you.

Anything relating to Tolkien and Quenya: | Quenya Tip:
Before it was refined and Tolkien actually had some idea what he was doing (kidding; kidding), the word 'Quenya' was originally spelled 'Kwenya'. Another spelling was 'cwenya', as Tolkien loved to play around with his language a lot, probably just because he could. Even in LotR-current Quenya, there were contradictions in several places, and no one can tell you for sure the exact spelling of certain words. Tolkien was continually refining and changing and mixing up his languages. Pfft. Typical 'manly' thing to do. So, two things from these few sentences. Number one, do not pronounce the word 'Quenya' as 'kehn-yuh'. It's 'KWEN-yah'. Quenya. Number two: with some parts in Quenya, you're just going to have to decide for yourself which spelling or grammatical place/use for a word you're going to use. Tolkien just never cleared up some parts for us, so feel free to spell an unsure word in the way that seems most right to you. |
'Alda' means 'tree' in Quenya. 'Elda' means 'elf' in Quenya. Please don't make the mistake I did and get the two mixed up. |
