The rainy weather didn’t put a damper on the show the 2004 AND 1 Mix Tape Tour players displayed for the Rocky Mountain fans on Monday night. AND 1 defeated the Denver squad, 85-81, despite a strong effort from the local team highlighted by the play of a kid dubbed “Bubba Sparks” who showed Professor a thing or two on the court.
Bubba, also known by his friends as Zach Baggett, didn’t post numbers that were too strong, but he proved to be a crowd favorite as he battled with the Professor. He was so impressive that he was picked up to travel with the AND 1 team and be featured on ESPN2’s reality show “Street Ball: The AND 1 Mix Tape Tour” along with current players “757” (Sante Gale, picked up in Oakland), “Spook” (Charles Davis, picked up in Phoenix) and “Spyda” (Dennis Chism, picked up in Las Vegas), who are all competing for an AND 1 endorsement contract.
Main Event had a strong first half for AND 1 with five dunks and 17 points overall on the half to help AND 1 to a 47-34 lead at the break. Helicopter put on another impressive performance with a few dunks that got the crowd out of their seats in the second half. AO and Professor were dishing passes left and right to set him and other teammates up for alley-oops. Go Get It had five dunks and eight boards on the game helping to wow the crowd and lead his team to the win. In the end, the fans were left in awe of the players in their first trip to Denver. The tour heads next to another new stop, Oklahoma City, for game 10 of the 2004 tour next Thursday.
