Tied results are decided by calculating the % of the finals score in the selection trials, and the finals score in the Paralympic Games, calculations will be taken to the third decimal point if necessary.
One athlete may not qualify for selection to the team in more then two events. At registration competitors will identify the event, or two events, in which they are competing for team trials.
National Disabled team members must be capable of traveling internationally, independently, without the assistance of an attendant.
Identified Athletes
Up to one competitor may be eligible for identified athlete status on the National Disabled Shooting Team. The selection criteria for identified athlete status is as follows:
· Finish in the top 2 positions in one of the events in which you registered for the team trials, based on the combined scores of the national championship course of fire, and the finals.
· Not have been a National team member
· Make application in writing , including a letter of support from your Provincial / Territorial shooting association to National Head Coach Bob Kierstead, within 30 days following the selection trials.
· Be associated with the Provincial / Territorial team program.
· The maximum period of time for identified athlete status for any individual is four years.
· Identified athletes train, travel, and compete with the National team on a fully self funded basis.
· While on identified athlete status a competitor may shoot a Paralympic minimum qualifying score at an ISCD sanctioned competition, however to participate in a World Championship or Paralympic Games, an athlete must be a full member of the team, not an identified athlete. While on identified athlete status a competitor is not eligible for carding recommendation.
Special Note re bye
Occasionally there occurs a scheduling conflict between the national championship and an international competition that is significant to the national team. Fortunately this does not occur often, however we have such a conflict this year. The European Championship being held this summer is an essential competition for the 4 current carded members of the national disabled team. Participation in the European championship conflicts with both the national pistol and national rifle championship. Therefore a BYE must be given to those 4 current carded members of the national disabled team who participate in the European championship. We try and avoid the use of a BYE whenever possible, but this year we must apply the BYE to those 4 current carded team members who compete in the European championship.
Giving the BYE to our 4 current carded team members means that there will be a few less places open for disabled shooters to earn a place on the national disabled team this summer. As you read in the team selection criteria above, we will name the top seven shooters to the team. However if all 4 current carded team members are awarded the Bye and compete in the European Championship then there will be 3 places open at the trials this summer. If any of these 4 current carded team members pass up on the Bye or do not compete in the European championship, then there will be additional places up for competition at the team selection trials. By the time of the trials we will be able to clarify how many places, will be available at the trials this summer. |
