56hr to replace 40hr working week in Russia

Independent Labour and Trade Union organisations in Russia are protesting on Thursday, December 21st against the Putin government's draconian new labour code.

The new labour law - if passed by the Russian State Duma (parliament) - will make it easier for the bosses to sack workers who fight to defend jobs and working conditions.  They could be sacked and blacklisted within a week.

In addition the 40 hour working week would be abolished in favour of 56 hours.  Employment rights which existed (at least on paper) under the old Soviet laws are rapidly being stripped away in the interests of Russia's new capitalist class.

Protests can be sent to the Duma, by fax: 007 095 292 6606, or by email to the President of the State Duma, Guennadi Seleznev at Seleznev@duma.gov.ru
