Monuments and Memorials
Just like the statues there are many of these all around London. Below are just a few with the description and picture's of them.
1) The Battle of Britain: This is dedicated to the 2,936 airmen from 15 countries who defended Britain from German air attack. Nearest station Westminster, Picture of the Memorial. Location The Embankment.
2) The R.A.F: This commentates the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval air Service that amalgamated to become the R.A.F in 1918. Nearest station Westminster, Picture of the Memorial. Location The Embankment.
3) Royal Artillery: This memorial with a large Howitzer Gun is dedicated to those of the Royal Artillery who were killed or injured in World War 1. Nearest Station Hyde Park Corner, Picture of the Memorial, Location Hyde Park Corner.
4) The Royal Marines: This commemorates the Marines that fell during the Boxer Rebellion in China and the Boer War, Nearest station Piccadilly Circus, Picture of the Memorial, Location The Mall Admiralty Arch.
5) Women of War II: This memorial is for the Women who stayed behind and worked in the fields and the factories, Nearest Station Westminster, Picture of the Memorial, Location Whitehall, near Downing Street.
6) Machine Gun Corps: This was formed and attached to every brigade, they were also known as the suicide squad as over 60,000 lost their lives. Nearest station Hyde Park Corner, Picture of the Memorial, Location Hyde Park Corner.
7) The Ghurkha: Ghurkha's are best known for their history of bravery and strength in the British Army, Nearest station Westminster, Picture of the Statue, Location opposite Horse Guard, White Hall.
