Vengeance

Crackle. "No!" Crash. "Ilana!" Shouts. "RUN ILANA, RUN!" More shouting. "HURRY ILANA, FORGET HIM!" Vanz ran through the watery street, yelling after his sister to run through the rain, but to no avail, she could not hear him. Vanz looked behind him and slipped in the rain. He felt the pain of his sister's impending doom. "ILANA! RUN!" "Gal, save me!" The eerily loud slash of a sword filled Vanz's head. "No! ILANA! Konaia, you'll pay!”

Vanz opened his eyes. He was in the middle of his first battle, on the eastern front of Anti'ila. "Vanz! Stay focused! They're coming!" Vanz nodded, and readied his sword. The warriors of the east rushed forward. Vanz and the army met them. Swing, slash, parry, slash, parry, swing, an endless cycle of onslaught. Vanz swung again. "Die, scum!" Vanz cut down the enemy, and stared into its face, or rather, her face. Ilana's face. Vanz's knees buckled. "No, ILANA!"

"ILANA!!!" Vanz woke up with a start, sweat trickling down his face. His breathing was random, heavy, startled. His heart was beating faster and faster. Vanz felt his eyesight begin to waver. He saw Ilana walk in. "Ilana...I'm sorry...for everything..." She approached him. "Vanz, calm down! You're making a ruckus! Snap out of it! VANZ!" Ilana slapped him, and Vanz came to reality.

Standing there was Erynne, the resistance's nurse. Vanz shook his head. "Oh...Erynne...I thought you were Ilana..." Erynne stared at him dryly. "Yeah, I noticed." "Ah...you slap hard...I need some aspirin..." Vanz rubbed his head, and watched Erynne's face give off a reddish hue.

The door creaked upon slowly but steadily. Someone was peeking in. Vanz got up. "Kethy, you can come in." A female human entered the room, followed by Kita. As she walked forward, her black hair flowed around the room, rippling with her movements, giving her a majestic presence. "Awww...How'd you know it was me?"

A smile spread across Vanz's face. "How would I not know it was you? Kethy, we've known each other since we were tiny! I know you like I knew Ilana." Erynne glared at Kethiryne. "If you need me, I'll be in the medical station." Erynne stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her. Vanz looked at Kethiryne. "Was it just me, or does she seem angry?"

A horn abruptly blared. Vanz and Kethiryne jumped up, and ran out the door. Vanz and Kethiryne hastily entered the command room, in the bottom floor of the resistance's underground base. Vanz walked over to Parc. “Parc, what’s the situation?” Parc turned around. "Vanz, our scouts have reported movements of Konaia’s army moving across the plains to the mountain country Orcra!"

Vanz stroked his minuscule beard. “Hmm…We can’t allow Konaia to invade Orcra. Orcra is the perfect strike point to any place on Epocya. We can’t abandon Anti’ila either, this is the perfect chance to strike. Hmm…” Vanz looked around. “Any ideas?”

Parc’s face lit up. “Vanz, I mean, Commander! Orcra has an army, so we only need to send a small detachment to intercept! We could send another detachment to Piladia for reinforcements, and the rest of us could strike the heart of Anti’ila!” Vanz grinned. “Looks like we have a plan! Parc, you plan out the details with Lepanque and Raquella. Then I'll make a few last minute adjustments.” Parc nodded, signalling Lepanque and Raquella to the table.

Vanz turned to Kethiryne. "This could be it. Are you ready?" Kethiryne nodded. "Right, let's do this Vanz!" Vanz noticed a movement out of the corner of his eye. "Erynne?" Erynne walked in appearing furious, with a malicious glint in her eye. She quickly composed herself. "I'm going with you, Vanz." She glared at Kethiryne. Vanz slowly nodded. "OK...sure..." Kita giggled in the corner, but stopped at a furious glance from Vanz.

Parc tapped Vanz's shoulder. "Commander, I have a quick sketch of the plans made out." Vanz walked with Parc over to the planning table. Vanz scanned over the plans. "This looks fine. You haven't organized the squads or detachments though." Parc shrugged. "Didn't have time. A quick sketch."

Vanz rolled his eyes. "OK. Parc, you're going to lead the detachment to Orcra, along with...hm...Kita, Lepanque. Take the quickest pakkers. Orcra will need those reinforcements. Irojima, you head for Piladia. It'll be easier to convince the Council of Elders of the situation because of your nationality. Kethiryne, you'll be our main representative. If it gets too dangerous, I want you to get out of there. Raquella, you hold the fort. Everyone else, with me."

Kita glanced at Parc, and grinned. "Teeheehee..." Lepanque walked up behind Kita, and put her hands over Kita's mouth. Irojima stared blankly at them, and Vanz simply laughed. Parc sighed, silently regretting ever knowing Kita.

Irojima moved swiftly to Kethiryne. "We should leave. The sooner we get to Piladia, the better." Kethiryne nodded, exchanged glances with Vanz, and left."

Vanz nodded his head. "Right. Let's do this. Good luck to all." A horn abruptly blared, beginning the final struggle of the First Resistance.
