When Bilbo found the Ring, he immediately knew that it was the One Ring but allowed Bilbo to keep it. Later, he persuaded Bilbo to leave the Ring to Frodo, and shortly after, he started the quest to Quest of Mount Doom. He fell battling the Balrog in Moria, but come back was Gandalf the White. He also freed Theoden from the evil spells of Saruman and Wormtongue, and casted Saruman out. After the War of the Ring Gandalf sailed from the Grey Havens with Elrond, Bilbo, and Frodo.
Date of birth: May 25 1939, in Burnley, Lancashire, England, UK
Birth name: Ian Murray McKellen
He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in 1961, and began his career in earnest. In
1988, he publicly came out of the closet on the BBC Radio 4 program, while discussing
Margaret Thatcher's "section 28" legislation which would make the
"public promotion of homosexuality" a crime. It was reason enough
for him to take a stand, and he has been active in the Gay Rights movement ever
since. He currently resides in Limehouse, where he lives with his current lover
of 8 years, Sean Mathias. To this day, he works mostly in theater, and was knighted
by Queen Elizabeth in 1990 for his efforts in the arts. He has a sister, Jean.
