TH Nov 23.

London. Sir John Vane, who shared the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1982 for his work in discovering how aspirin works, has died at the age of 77.

Keshav Prasad Pradhan “Premi”, an average ranked student and the son of a peasant from Chitwan, today turned out to be the dark horse in the Masters level examination in all faculties of TU, securing an astounding 91.2 percent. Prestigious awards like the Chancellor Award and the Ram Prasad Manandhar Award were showered on him in the 31st Convocation program held in Kathmandu on November 22.  As parting shot, Pradhan urged the government to give priority to the upgradation of livestock since most of the rural people depend upon livestock for their sustenance.  “Livestock development could be a major tool to alleviate rural poverty,” he said. He took degree from Agriculture and Livestock Campus Rampur, Chiotwan, Nepal.

Dream 19 Nov 2004

Rangrung Thoolohatiya, near Nageshwori tree, I saw a fresh water tap. Water was flowing to the Chautari, way to Kimal danda. Way to Pandhera., I saw mothers (my mother and her sister) carrying cupper water pot at Terso baato of the way on the way.  I asked to carry those pots fro them but they said there is still one more pot at the Pandhera and bring that to home.  I was actually wanted to go the Pandhera pari’s bari land. Neem based spermicide to combat AIDS

TH Nov 23. Indian scientists are developing a herbal spermicide from neem plant (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) in an effort to control the spead of AIDS.

The drug developed by GP Talwar, former director of the National Institute of Immunology, is made from the leaves and bark of the neem tree and is undergoing clinical tests in Pune.

The tablet, which resembles a small soap, when inserted into the vagina 10-15 minutes before intercourse, would kill all the sperm cells entering the body, and the AIDS virus coming with them.  Nearly 85 percent of AIDS cases in India are sexually transmitted.

Only 51.2 per cent men and 39.8 per cent women use condoms during sex with non-regular partners.  The disease is now becoming “feminised”, with one in every four patient being a woman. As a result, efforts to control AIDS are also focusing more on women.
