**************

As usual it is always a pleasure to receive Sunder Awaz. I have the pleasure of going through SA 57. The message expressed in it is very philosophical, inspiring and instructive. The poem about life, thought provoking messages form SSS and similar views expressed in this Awaz are valuable and worth emulating. About poverty Gandhi Ji was of the opinion :- who knows poverty is the result of virtue and wealth is the result of sin.

With best wishes,

BPK

5. Shree Sadhak Satyam (SSS):

If you truly believe in your goodness, in what you are doing, you will influence other people. So, one person makes a lot of difference.  But if you don't believe they will influence you. They'll try to make a strong person out of your personality. We don't learn so that other people will know. We learn so that we know and that we can bless the world silently through our inner glory and inner love.  To be a noble being is the only choice; to walk forward, it doesn't matter how difficult; to fly upward, it doesn't matter how far, or how high. We just have to try again and again.

Hari Om

7. Joke/s:

A drunk walked into a bar in Glasgow and asked, "Was I in here last night?"
"Yes, you were," replied the barmaid.
"Did I spend much money?"
"About thirty pounds."
"Thank God -- I thought I'd lost it!"

A man went into a tailor's shop and saw a man hanging by one arm from the
center of the ceiling.
"What is he doing there?" he asked the tailor.
"Oh, pay no attention," said the tailor, "he thinks he's a light bulb."
"Well, why don't you tell him he's not?" asked the startled customer.
"What?" replied the tailor. "And work in the dark?"

8. Breaking News:

Mad Cow Threat Hits USA

The first suspected case of mad cow disease in the USA was reported Tuesday and threatens to devastate the country's $98 billion cattle industry as it did elsewhere.

A Holstein cow on a dairy farm in Washington state initially tested positive for the disease. More tests are being done to confirm the infection.

The Agriculture Department moved quickly to reassure the public that infected parts of the cow never made it to a meat plant and that no other animals were known to be infected.

Ban on US Beef Import

London.  Following the discovery of the first suspected case of mad cow disease in the US, Japan, south Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Russia and Australia all imposed temporary import bans on US beef.

Students' Leaders Released

HMG/N has droped the charges against the leaders, viz. Guru Raj ghimire, Gagan Kumar Thapa and Purusottam Acharya of agitating student movement.  Police took them in control due to "unconstitutional" slogan fluted during the rally.  Even after the release of the leaders, the seven students' unions have decided to continue their protest programs.  They have called on the government to make public the whereabouts of missing students, dismissal of "fake" cases filed against the students and reversal of the "regression" following the royal takeover.

This is the first time in Nepal's judicial history that the government has withdrawn a "criminal" case a day after the case was filed against anyone.

9. Recall/s:

I usually dream.  I remember some dreams, but not all.  If I noted them early in the morning, I recall them for a long time.  If I didn't note them, it is very difficult to recall later on the dreams.

Why does it happen?

Dream 25 December 2003.

Very deep and blue river.  Diving into the river for 13 + 8 seconds.  No harm is seen. It was like a game. Kisunji, Makune and many others were trying to dive into the river from the middle of the weak bridge.  Me and a woman went to other side and tried to make deep dive into the same place.  We also went other parts of the river.  I guess it is Seti Gandaki near Tanahun.  I saw many old women and relatives too.  The woman with me was very adventure loving one.

Christmas Poem:

When the white snow falls

as if the sky was floating gently to the ground

The cool air around me

at winter time

blows the snow around in various circles

And the white ground looks as if painted

everywhere around

covered all about

The children

having snowball fights

in the mist of nature's masterpiece

Enjoying themselves

on nature's wonderful time of year

And some inside

on an open fire

roasting marshmallows

'til they're brown and crisp

And others still

inside their homes

decorating trees with shiny ornaments

making nature's masterpiece

even better than it was

Christmas

12. Quiz/es:

Which direction does the water flow down a drain at the Equator?

That depends on which way the water spills into the bathtub, and how the bathtub is built. Contrary to popular opinion, it doesn't depend on the bathtub's latitude.

The inertial force with which the rotating Earth affects air and water masses is known as the Coriolis effect or Coriolis force. It's the reason why cyclones rotate clockwise in the southern hemisphere, and counterclockwise in the northern. However, you need huge amounts of moving air and water for it to take effect. In the case of a bathtub, the water drain is primarily affected by the shape of the drain and residual currents in the plumbing.

According to this Scientific American piece, rumor has it that some entrepreneurs in an African country have set up toilets on either side of the equator. For a price, they let the curious watch the toilets flush in opposite directions. But it's bunk.

The Guardian hosts a wonderful column called "Speculative Science" that recently featured several no-nonsense types responding to the same question. Reader William Dunlap roundly debunks the Coriolis Drain Myth and refers us to the Bad Science Page for more shattering revelations.

You'll also find a Coriolos entry in the ever-helpful Urban Legends Reference Pages that sums up the issue: "Toilets and sinks drain in the directions they do because of the way water is directed into them or pulled from them."
