	Ryazancev has been in the employ of the KGB/SVR since her late teens. She joined in the hope of doing intelligence work, but soon found herself doing menial secretarial work. Despite this disappointment she continued with her work, and eventually became the secretary for the 5th Department 'rezidenty' in Spain. She soon found that she enjoyed her work, and on occasions she was utilized as a field agent, though not often.
