Unresolved situations escalate Inside something brings me to push To find out what you can take When we run out of love and change seasons With our lives together at stake I'm aware of tears that I give when your near And the confusion that I make ~ This time, by Depswa June 23, 2008 Paige's Place 1600 hours Joshua checked his watch again. Four o'clock. Where the hell was she? She said she'd be home early afternoon. It wasn't like her to be so late. He had called her an hour ago and there was no answer. There was that small twinge in his gut again. Something happened. He knew this, instinctively. The landline rang startling his thoughts. He stared at the phone on the wall just outside the kitchen. He didn't remember ever hearing it ring before. He stood and crossed the room debating whether to answer it or not. Fuck it. "Hello?" he asked evenly. "Uh, I'm sorry..." "Gray?" he recognized the voice that apparently hadn't recognized his yet. "Who is this, please?" "It's me, Joshua." "Joshua...what are you doing there?" "I was just doing some work." He rolled his eyes, stupid lie. He couldn't just tell Gray he was waiting for Paige to come back so he could have a little chat with her. A little chat that was not going to end pretty...not for her anyway. "Is Paige there?" "No, actually, she's not," he said furrowing his brow. That answered the question as to whether or not she had checked in with the SIA. "Oh," he said clearly frustrated and distracted. Maybe he should go out on a limb, "I was kind of expecting her back early this afternoon." "So was I," Gray said quietly. "You don't suppose something happened?" Joshua shook his head, with Paige, anything was possible. "I think it's too early to jump to any conclusions. She was with...uh..." he knew damn well who she was with, but Gray didn't need to know that. "Jaime, I was going to call him next," Gray said clearly distracted. "Maybe I should come in," Joshua said out loud. "No, we'll take care of this, I'm sure it's nothing and she's with Bella or something." "Uh huh," Joshua nodded his head spying the little fish. That thing was still alive? "Keep me posted." "I will," Gray said and disconnected the line. "Good thing I answered that," he said to the fish, hanging up the phone. "Can't have any fun without the guest of honor, can we?" He grabbed the fish bowl off the table bringing it into the kitchen. "Sorry pal, but this is gonna hurt you more than it hurts me." Joshua tipped the bowl so the water came out spilling into the sink. The little fish swam frantically towards the back of the bowl but it was no use. Joshua tipped it all the way up and the blue fish was forced out, into the sink, and lay gasping in the drain dish. Joshua righted the bowl and stood staring at the fish as it lay dying. He wasn't really thinking about anything except that Paige was going to come home and find her fish dead. More importantly, him waiting for her. She would be upset, which was fine with him because that would make her easier to deal with. Easier to interrogate...easier to dominate. He smirked as the fish lay dead. There would definitely be some dominating going on. He needed it. He filled the bowl back up with water arranging the plant stuck into the sand at the bottom. He then picked up the dead fish and dropped it into the water. He smirked hoping to god that Paige had a good weekend...because her week wasn't looking so good... ...not so good at all... Return |
