It is incredible to me that so many English players of a relatively high skill level are unfamiliar with the correct recovery positions on the court. Most everyone understands that when your opponent is in the middle of the court that you should be in the middle of the court on your side. The majority understand that if your opponent hits a crosscourt shot and you reply with a crosscourt that you should be to the right of center. What is not understood well at all is your recovery position when you hit the ball down the line. The correct position is to scurry as fast as you can to the far side of the court before your opponent starts his forward swing. If you don't, you are a sitting duck for a short crosscourt backhand. Once you understand this concept of position play you will hit the line intelligently.
