I am putting together a series of FAQs on how to decode uuencoded files from
different newsreaders. I appreciate all comments, opinions, and
questions. If you feel that the material here is hard to understand, or
need more help, please feel free to contact me at hagie@netcom.com. I want
to make these as useful to people as I can, and suggestions are appreciated.

                               NN Newsreader
Let's take an example:

  a Robert E. Staat 956 thyspred.gif (4/5)
  b Robert E. Staat 759 thyspred.gif (5/5)
  c Jim Ing 1330 HELEN.GIF (1 of 4)
  d Jim Ing 1310 HELEN.GIF (2 of 4)
  e Jim Ing 1310 HELEN.GIF (3 of 4)
  f Jim Ing 452 HELEN.GIF (4 of 4)

Let's say you want the file HELEN.GIF. You see on the left
consecutive letters for each file. You have to mark the parts
of the file that you want, in this case c,d,e, and f. You do
this by (what a surprise), typing the letters in order, (no
return is necessary) and the selections should become High-lited.

When all of the parts are marked, type the following:

':decode'

It will then give you this prompt:

  Decode Directory:

You can choose really any name you want for the storage
directory. I choose 'pics' personally. After typing it in, you
will get this prompt:

  Decode test2/ Article (* +):

In this case, you want to type '*', which is just for your
selected articles (the ones you marked earlier). The program
will now proceed to decode the article. In this case it
displays:

  Processing 'HELEN.GIF (1 of 4)'...
  D.Jim Ing 1330 HELEN.GIF (1 of 4)

  Processing 'HELEN.GIF (2 of 4)'...
  D.Jim Ing 1310 HELEN.GIF (2 of 4)

  Processing 'HELEN.GIF (3 of 4)'...
  D.Jim Ing 1310 HELEN.GIF (3 of 4)

  Processing 'HELEN.GIF (4 of 4)'...
  Decoding: helen.gif (part 4)
  helen.gif complete

That's it. It is now in the directory that you specified
earlier. Now you should download it to your machine (assuming
you are not directly connected to the Internet).
