The "Pet Faire" is scheduled for Sat. & Sun. Sept. 18 & 19 at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. Chuck Arella would like to have a representation of various types of birds - canaries, finches & parrots. If you would like to exhibit a cage or two of birds call Chuck or call Allen Thompson deadline Sept. 1. Our booth is 10 X 30 feet. We will use the show shelves for the birds. I will also need people to man the booth on Sat. & Sun. from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please label all cages and birds. Exhibitors must pick up their birds on Sun. at 6:30 p.m.
This area has been in need of a supplier of "bird food" not just bird seed for some time. Someone who raised and studied the needs of birds for many, many years, and with this experience and after much studying and testing of seed, vitamins and minerals, a formula was developed. With all this knowledge the L&D Seed Co. has been announced by a member of our club, in fact one of the founders of this club back in 1958. Congratulations and the very best of success in this venture Leonard & Delilah Quieto. A price list is available.
With show season coming up soon this meeting will be a workshop on show preparation.
Will & Elva Lillroth, Margaret Roche and Nikkie McClatchie will be donating birds for the August raffle.
This is the club activities for the next four months,

Perhaps you, too, have wondered how birds can sleep on a twig or branch without falling off. The answer is that the sleeping bird can't fall because its feet are actually 'locked' on the perch. Each of the bird's toes are connected with a cord inside the leg. When the bird sits on a branch, the bending of the leg tightens the cord and pulls the toes around the branch. As a result, the toes are clamped to the branch and even in sleep the bird cannot lose its hold. The toes are loosened only when the bird awakens and stand up.
Sincerely in the fancy,
L. Di Maria
