POTLUCK - 1:00 P.M.
MEETING - 1:45 P.M.

Chuck Arella is donating spagetti & sauce for the luncheon.

A - L bring salad
M - Z bring dessert

Please bring your dishes & silverware.

PROGRAM: Bring your bird problems & questions in writing. These will be submitted to a round table where an expert (?) will attempt to solve your problem and/or answer your questions.

RAFFLE: The following will donate birds for the raffle: Mary Sanchez - Gordon and Joe Ann Jankowsky - Ron Mercer.

The raffle table has been a little sparse lately - don't take too literally the phrase "bird related items". If you have something that would make a nice raffle item - bring it! Those breeders that do not have birds suitable for a raffle table should make an effort to bring an item at least once during the year.

We want to thank Ed & Lona Schmalz for pinch hitting with a bird for the raffle table at the May meeting.

Richard & Mary Volpe want to extend their warmest thanks to the members for their kind thouhgts, prayers and sincere effort rendered during the stressful time of their daughters kidnapping. She is now home and well.

George Ginger is home recuperating from his recent surgery.

We have a REAL PROBLEM. We have been unable to find a suitable picnic site for our July Bar-B-Q. It has to be able to accommodate 100-150 people in Santa Clara area - shaded - chairs & table available. If anyone knows of such an area - let us know. As of now the July 12th date is in limbo. If we luck out - you'll be the first to know.

Taken from Pet Business May 1981:

Exotic Newcastle disease has been found in young yellow-naped amazon parrots in Southern California, this time in birds sold at local flea market.

According to Dr. Ernest Ongert, western regional directory of USDA's APHIS, the birds were sold by "unknown parties" from parked vehicles and not by pet shops.

"As far as we know, the birds came into the Los Angeles area in March and were sold in ones and twos to people who should have known that they were 'illegals'. Laboratory reports on the few brought to private veterinarians would indicate that the entire shipment was infected with Exotic Newcastle disease." Dr. Ongert said.

In an attempt to stop the sale of smuggled parrots, USDA officials have asked the local press to warn potential buyers against buying birds except from responsible sources" such as pet shops.

"Peddlers sell the small green birds door-to-door, in supermarket parking lots or swap meets for $300 to $500", one USDA news release said, "Adult birds cost about $1000".
