We have finally received some single breeder black cages which can be used for show cages - in fact we have 100 of them (but they are going fast). If you are interested in buying any of them better phone either Chuck or Glenn immediately and reserve the number you want. They will be available after the meeting on Sunday, at $8.00 each.

The Bird Flea Mart was not quite what the club had expected. There seemed to be a huge lack of interest from the club members, there was competition from the World Series, and apparently there just was no enthusiasm for it. Our president has decreed that this was the last Flea Mart unless someone comes up with a better idea! And yes, it was advertised in the San Jose Mercury, The Tribune-Times, and the Santa Clara Sun!

Bird Donors for the November meeting are: Mel Culross, George Santos, Roland Skirrow, Joe Gordon, Ralph Barnes, Lona Schmals.

It is still not too late to sign up for the course in FUNDAMENTAL AVIAN MEDICINE being given at UC Berkeley. It is being given Nov. 9 from 7 - 10 P.M. and Nov. 10 from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. If you want more information, I have the brochure so phone me and I'll fill you in on it.

Bill has informed us that the Club Insurance through AFA has finally been renewed. This covers the shows, socials, services - in other words - meetings on the premises not owned or operated by the insured. It will cost approximately 63 cents per person (member) and the club is paying for the premium.

The AFA is holding a Regional Convention at the San Francisco Hilton at the Airport on February 16 through the 18th (1980). I will give you much more information about this later. Just wanted you to be sure to reserve those dates when you get your new calendars!

Also, a word about the new subscription rates (memberships). If you have paid your dues (or will be paying them) between the Florida Convention in August and December 31st, 1979, you may enlarge your membership to the three year period by paying the difference in what they (you) already paid and $35 before the first of the year. Remember - this applies only to those renewing since August and before the end of the year when the new rates go into effect.

Finally for AFA - they will have a hospitality room Suite 1400 at the Hacienda Hotel, during the National Cage Bird Show. Following precedent set at Florida, this will be open 24 hours a day during the National Show.

NOW ABOUT THE SHOW

According to Howard - the trophies are all done, and have been picked up and are ready to go! (How about that for getting things done on time?) By now you should all have your own copy of our catalogue. If you don't - contact Ralph Barnes. And did you know that the catalogue has paid for itself with all the great advertising which was procurred by Ruth Mitchell. A huge task done remarkably well, I would say. There will be no raffle after the Saturday night banquet this year. That means we have that much more to look forward to on Sunday! We expect each member who has not donated a bird for raffle during this year to donate at least one for the bird auction on Sunday of the show. In fact it would be very thoughtful if those of you who have givenduring the year would donate another for the acution - (just a suggestion). The tickets for thhe Saturday Night Banquet will go on sale Saturday.

Other than these announcements, everything seems to be under control about the Annual Show on November 27, 28 and 29.

Be sure to bring lots of birds - stick around - help wherever you see someone who needs help - be sure to welcome the new people - and may all your birds win!

In Knoxville, Tennessee pet birds with a penchant for a good time are in for a few rough days. A new ordinance passed by the City Council effectively keeps all birds in town from smoking and drinking. The problem stems from an ordinance which calls for a $50. fine for anyone convicted of "giving or offering tobacco, alcohol or other known noxious substance to a bird or animal". Pet show owners are hereby notified - birds found smoking can mean trouble!
