1993
Sydney, Australia for a Computers in Education conference at the just slightly inappropriate venue of Panthers Casino and Hotel in Penrith.
Notable for my first ever OE, first ever (and only) visit to a casino (really sad, seeing someones grandmother feeding pokey machines at 7am on a sunday morning...).
Quite liked the only side trip though, to see the Syndey Harbour Bridge. Duration:9 days
1994
Having wet my feet with a piffling two and a half hour flight to Australia the previous year and been encouraged to visit my friend and publisher Dave Clare I went a bit silly and decided to fly to England (non-stop). For a kid who grew up in rural New Zealand thats a big move and I really didn't have a clue what I was letting myself in for. 37 hours travelling (26 of them in the air) from leaving home to touchdown in Manchester. So this is what jet-lag feels like... :-(
Lots of things to remember. Cheshire staying with Dave, Tatton Park, the Harrogate spring computer show, Northern Ireland, Belfast and not forgetting London and Windsor. Must have enjoyed myself though because...
1995
England (again). Bit more adventerous this time though. I had a couple of days in Singapore on the way over and took a rental car for a week and drove to see my relations in Scotland.
Liverpool, Coronation Street set in Manchester, another Harrogate show, more time in Belfast, Mourne Mountains (mountains, ha!), lots more around London.
1996
Had a Hernia operation instead... :-(
1997
Round the globe this time. Auckland-Hawaii-Vancouver (2 day stopover there) then on to Manchester and home via London and Singapore (another 2 day stopover).
I caught a flu on the plane. :-( Wakefield for the show this time, then lots of train travel. North from Wakefield to Edinburgh, went to Glasgow to see Majid Anwar of Alternative publishing, Train south to London then Bournemouth to see Alex Thoukydides
Thats all folks...
I haven't gone anywhere for the last couple of years and at the moment can't really see myself making the effort again. Getting too set in my ways I suppose...
