Track-Edit trouble-shooting
Before suspecting an error in the program it is important to check that
the problem is not elsewhere. The VS does not always update its display
properly after a remote change to a parameter so first clear the display
(by pressing the Play/Display button beneath the LCD) and then reselect
the parameter to see its true value. If the VS parameters correspond to
those which are displayed by the program then any "misfunctioning" of the
VS is due to the fact the parameter selection is incorrect - in this case,
refer to the VS manual.
Remember also that the communication settings are saved individually with
each song. This means that selecting a new song which does not have the
correct settings, most of all the three fundamental ones below, will cause
the program to stop working.
SYS:MID:MIDIThr = Out
SYS:MID:SysEx.Rx = On
SYS:MID:SysEx.Tx = On
Known problems
Using Measures mode it may be
noticed that there is occasionally a difference of one block between
where the program defines the measure/beat and where the VS defines
the measure/beat. It is not clear if this is a numerical precision
problem in the program or in the VS. However, one block is the
equivalent of 0.36ms at 44.1kHz, and the error does not depend on song
position, so this difference should be imperceptible.
Audio downloading is not reliable, the data
received is sometimes corrupted, so use this function with caution and be
aware that sometimes pressing Play immediately after downloading can cause
a burst of digital noise. These problems are probably dependent on R-DAC
compression mode and VS system version (observed using VS-880 system
version 3.1).
Clearing the Locate point via MIDI may not
cause the VS to switch off the associated LED, and if the "disabled"
button
is pressed the song position will move to 23:59:59. This is not an error
in the program, but a limitation of the VS MIDI capabilities (observed
using VS-880 system version 3.1).
Using the Preview buttons may not work correctly.
With VS-880 system version 3.1 pressing the To and then the For button causes
the preview to play, but either To or For alone does not work.
Over-enthusiastic use of the scrub function can
cause the VS to get slightly confused (it appears that it responds that it
is not busy at the moment the mouse button is pressed but then it signals
an error saying that it is busy when the scrub is enabled). This may
result in the occasional beep (the program warning that the busy message
was received), and occasionally the scrub may not turn on. Try to leave a
couple of seconds for the VS to recover (wait for the disk activity to
stop) before trying again. This phenomenon is most noticeable with MAS
mode songs but, in any case, should not happen enough to be more than a
minor inconvenience.
