Rajni, is supposed to marry Sheeba, an alliance not approved of by her father. He is killed and goes to Heaven only to learn that his death was a mistake. He is offered another body to inhabit, that of a timid villager whose uncle and aunt are plotting to kill him. He takes up the offer and teaches them a lesson while romancing with Kanaga. But coming into contact with some characters from his earlier life, reminds him of his duties over there too. He solves all problems and all's well that end well.

A movi with lots of promise but not realised to the full extent. Rajni's time in heaven is great fun as he fights with Chitrgupta and dances around with Rambha. The part where he corrects the uncle and aunt are good fun too. But a slow first half-hour and a ridiculous climax pull down the movie. Has a nice sequence where, Rajni and Yama and Narada go through earlier roles of Rajni while looking for a body for him to move into.

Rajni is a drama actor hired by the three brothers of Sujatha, to impersonate her dead son and transfer all the wealth to them. Sujatha who has somehow lost her memory and gone crazy, is kep tied up in chains. Rajni runs away from the house but later learns he is really the heir who was assumed to be dead and returns to the house to save his mother and the wealth and kick out the bad guys.

Similar to the other recent movies Rajni has done. Nice songs, good action and enough politically-oriented dialogs to satisfy his fans. The scene where Rajni returns to the house and talks to the brothers about his life story - which neatly parallells his real life story - is the best in the movie.

Rajni is the oldest of three brothers in the village and falls in love with Soundarya. But comes to learn that he is not really the son but an orphan. He goes to the city to learn about his past and runs into Visu who tells him that his father was a millionaire. Rajni now has to spend Rs.30 crores in 30 days to inherit his father's wealth. He comes up with several plans but Visu's partners try to wreck his plans to get the wealth for themselves. He spends the money, is accepted by his old family and weds Soundarya.

While the movie builds up nicely upto the interval, the second-half where Rajni tries to spend the money is not as interesting as it could've been. Lack of a political target leads to almost no political dialogs in the film. Rajni makes up for it with philosophical dialogs about life and money. Rajni's trademark line in this movie is "Andha Aandavan Solraan; Indha Arunachalam Seiraan"

Completed a hat-trick of blockbusters for the Rajni-Suresh Krissna team after Annamalai and Baasha. Rajni is a violence-detesting auto driver living with his brother and two sisters. After resisting during several occasions, he finally flares up when his sister is injured by the local dada. His past as the Bombay don Baasha, assumed dead for long, is revealed in a flashback. When Raguvaran, his enemy during his Baasha days, learns that he is still alive, he breaks out of prison and kidnaps his family. Rajni saves them and is accepted by all.

Tight scripting and a great performance by Rajni make this one a must-see, Rajni fan or not. The first half, where the director gradually builds up to Rajni exploding just before the interval is great. The second half is a bit of a letdown after the superb first half but not too much. Contains the much-copied line "Naan Oru Dhadavai sonnaa nooru dhadavai sonnaa maadhiri"

The movie starts off with Rajni coming to the city from his village and winning, along with Senthil, a song contest organised by Janakaraj. He then tells Senthil about his reason for coming to the village - to repay his mother's debt to another villager. He was also in love with Meena and was going back to the village to wed her. But he learns that the village had a flood in which Meena died. He returns to the city and weds Janakaraj's daughter Roja who is in love with him. But Meena, who was rescued, turns up and Rajni has to act as two people, Muthu and Veera, to tackle them. The truth comes out in the end and Rajni falls into the villain's trap but escapes and establishes the truth.

A hilarious film that exploits Rajni's comic talent to the full extent. Rajni excels in the scenes where he tries to catch the eye of Meena by learning singing under her father and later when he acts as the husbands of both Meena and Roja. Senthil lends able support. Has some robust fight sequences too. Ilaiyaraja comes up with some great songs.

Rajni is Sarath Babu's loyal servant, tagging along with him to all village dramas. At one such drama, Meena catches Sarath's eye but a turn of circumstances forces Rajni to get her home. They are stuck awhile in Kerala and romance blossoms. They keep it a secret from Sarath but he learns of it from his uncle(planning to marry his daughter to Sarath) and sends Rajni away. Sarath's mother reveals that Rajni's father was the real zamindar and when cheated by his manager, had gone away on a pilgrimage asking that his son be brought up as a servant. Meanwhile Sarath is killed by his uncle and Rajni is blamed but Sarath who was saved by Rajni Senior, returns just in time to clear things up.

A great performance by Rajni marks this movie. He prances around with Meena in the hilarious first half while playing a sober, philosophical zamindar in the flashback. Has a lot of very funny moments when Rajni and Meena get stranded in Kerala. Nice songs from A.R.Rehman, well picturised by K.S.Ravikumar. Thillaana Thillaanaa... stood out for its use of vivid colors in costumes and dresses and some fast dancing by Rajni and Meena.

Rajni plays a milkman who values friendship more than anything else. He's friends with Sarath Babu until he gets stabbed in the back by Sarath over a piece of land. Challenges to become an even bigger hotelier than Sarath Babu and succeeds. On the way, marries Kushboo and sets his sister's husband right.

Its Rajni all the way. Great movie with equal - and just the right - amounts of comedy, sentiments, action and politically tinged dialogs. The Kadavule Kadavule scene where he pleads with a snake and then follows it into Kushboo's bathroom is an instant classic. Rajni bristles in the scenes where he teaches the local MLA, Vinu Chakravarthy, a lesson and challenges Sarath Babu. Well choreographed stunts and song sequences. Could just be the perfect Rajnikanth movie!

Rajni plays two roles - a womanising father of two and the goody-goody son. The father rapes a new employee when in Singapore but on his return finds out that she is now the manager of his own company and is all set to wed his son. Step by step, he learns that all of it is a drama enacted by his son and the woman. But when his sins threaten to destroy his wife, whom he loves, he realises his mistakes. He's also punished adequately when he loses his legs.

Rajni is delightful as the womanising old man still in love with his wife. Lakshmi is equally good as the timid wife who loves him and doesnt approve of his nocturnal activities but is unable to do much about it. Sarita is good as usual. Has some nice dialogs and songs.

Rajni plays an unemployed graduate romanced by Amala. Back home, Srividya, a rich lady, puts Rajni's sister in jail since she doesnt approve of her son's romance with her. Rajni learns that Amala is Srividya's daughter and marries her. Srividya hatches plan after plan to split Rajni and Amala but he manages to beat them all. When her own brother and manager turn on her for money, Srividya realises what Rajni meant by family being more important than money and Rajni turns up as promised to save her from the villains.

This well-directed film manages to pit Rajni against Srividya nicely. Has lots of whistle-inducing dialogs from Rajni as he challenges Srividya at various occasions. Apart from Rajni, Srividya is great in her over-the-top performance as the haughty mother-in-law while a pretty Amala romances nicely. Has Rajni's first fast dance in Unai thaan Nitham Nitham...

Rajni is the doting brother of sister Shobha. He runs into frequent problems with supervisor Sarath Babu because of his nature. Rajni loses his hand in an accident and Sarath fires him from his job. Things come to a head when Sarath expresses his wish to marry Shobha. Rajni refuses outright and even fixes her marriage to someone else. The whole village, including Rajni's wife, decided to conduct the marriage of Sarath and Shobha. But in the end, a brother's affection wins as Shobha rushes back from the group and decided to act as per Rajni's wishes. Rajni himself then offers her hand in marriage to Sarath.

Rajni and Shobha create another beautiful example of brother-sister affection after Sivaji and Savithri in Paasamalar. Rajni plays the hero to perfection bring out both his love for his sister and his hatred towards his supervisor. His uninhibited dancing for Raaman Aandalum... is a treat to watch. Shobha is great as his timid sister. Ilaiyaraja comes up with another amazing soundtrack teaming up with Balu Mahendra's superb photography for the gem, Sendhaazhampoovil...

Sivaji is the loving elder brother whose wife sends his younger brothers away when he's away. Rajni, the older of the two, toils as a taxi driver to put his brother through college. But the brother strays and gets mixed up with some wrong elements. He marries a girl from a rich family. The girl's father's brother, who's smuggling drugs using his brother's lorries, kills him and places the blame on Rajni. Sivaji, the presiding judge, realises that its his long-lost brother and returns as a lawyer to save him.

Simple but effective movie with another great performance by Rajni. Great comedy when he bumps into Ambika and ends up thinking she is pregnant. The scene where he goes to see his brother in a college drama is another great one. Excels in sentiments too after he learns his brother has been cheating him all along. Oorai Therinjukkitten... was a meaningful song and a huge hit.

Rajni weds Meena after beating her other suitor Napolean, in a bullock race. Napolean takes revenge by mixing a herb in Meena's drink that makes her unable to beget a child. Meena lies to Rajni that she is pregnant just to maintain his pride in the village and then commits suicide asking him to wed Ishwarya. Rajni saves Ishwarya from Napolean's hands and weds her.

One of the movies with a great introducing scene for Rajni where he walks into view followed by a huge group of villagers. But too much of sentiments force Rajni to be serious most of the time not allowing him much scope for comedy. Good songs from Ilaiyaraja.

Rajni is born on a new moon night and according to superstition, anyone born on a new moon night will grow up to be a criminal. Frustrated by accusations, he hits his teacher in school, who dies and Rajni is put in jail. On his release, he stays with his sister but moves out soon since his brother-in-law, a cop, always has his eye on him. He moves in with a n old freedom-fighter and his daughter. When Raguvaran molests the daughter, Rajni forces him to wed her and also forces Raguvaran's father to stand for election make him spend all his money but also makes him lose. But Rajni is also in love with Raguvaran's sister, Rubini. Raguvaran, who is an arms dealer, kills his wife and misleads the police into into thinking Rajni is a terrorist. Rajni clears the air and brings the culprits to justice.

Has some extremely far-fetched stunts with Rajni flying around during fights and roller-skating on the streets of Madras. But S.P.Muthuraman once again proved he had his fingers on the pulse of moviegoers with this big money-earner. Rubini's debut.

Rajni and Prabhu play petty thieves who have grown up together as orphans. While in jail, they meet Pandiyan who tells them that he was unjustly thrown in jail because he tried to fight against bigwig Radha Ravi who had killed his sister. Promising to find the truth and get him out, Rajni and Prabhu investigate and find out that Pandiyan's parents are captives in Radha Ravi's home where he tortures them to get the location of a hidden treasure and that Pandiyan is Rajni's brother. Rajni and Prabhu rescue them and also recover the gold.

A hilarious movie with excellent chemistry between Rajni and Prabhu. The comic talents of both are fully exploited. Gouthami, in her first movie, couldn't have hoped for a better break in tamil movies. But the climax is too long and far-fetched.

Rajni plays three roles. The father, an honest police official, is killed by corrupt elements. The sons, separated at birth, get together to take revenge.

Rajni created one of the most enduring characters, Alex Pandiyan, in this movie. With pursed lips, hunched back, peering eyes and a swaggering walk, Alex was an unforgettable character. The second role was that of a criminal gone the wrong way before turning over a new leaf while the third was the typical tamil movie hero, romancing with the heroine and fighting. Overall a good movie elevated by a great performance by Rajni.
