GENERAL TEAM TACTICS for public servers

Here is a list of guidelines and tactics while online. Granted, some may seem obvious, but when we are all in there, it is nice to have everyone on the same page.

War Server Tactics

  1. Make sure you enter our squad number when selecting your plane for the night: our Allied squad number is 184, and our German squad number is 185.
  2. Use squad chat, except when saluting the enemy, or signaling other team members. If someone has Roger Wilco up and running, get the host IP to your Squad mates.
  3. One pilot should enter the field on the war server and determine the closest aerodrome to the action, in order to cut down on unnecessary flight time finding the enemy. Other pilots should wait in the chat area. During a war an aerodrome will be assigned.
  4. All pilots should enter the specified aerodrome and if not under attack wait on the field for all SE's.
  5. All pilots should pair off. Get a wingman. If there is an odd number, the last wing contains 3 planes.
  6. A flight leader is selected impromptu and leads to the target area.
  7. All pilots should follow the leader to target area but should stick close to his wingman.
  8. Flight leader should cruise around 70% throttle to make sure the squad is together. Once together, increase airspeed to engage enemy.
  9. The flight leader cruises to target between 1500 and 2000 feet. During wartime this varies greatly.
  10. The flight leader selects first target. All SE's should make an initial pass at this first target.
  11. If more than one target is in area, the 2nd, and 3rd wings (pairs) should target these extra enemies. The flight leader and his wingman should continue to pursue the initial target.
  12. If you or your plane are significantly damaged, head for the aerodrome. Your wingman should cover you. Land and repair that plane. Both should land as it will refuel and reload ammo on both planes.
  13. If you crash, restart at the drome but take a quick census on where everyone is. Since the <S!> is considered a 'yes' answer, ask questions that can get a yes (S!). If another SE is in combat there won't be a lot of time for typing. It is best to wait for a wingman as being caught all alone is usually a waste of your flight time to the target area. It might also be wise to have some of your quick chat keys set to "Plane damaged, I'm heading back to base", "I need help quick", and "out of ammo". Or something that is descriptive. Believe me, if you are using all your hands (as opposed to both of them) and some virtual duct tape to fly your plane back to base, having these terms ready to go at the push of a button is very nice.
  14. If you crash and can wait, stick around for another SE to join you at the drome.
  15. When necessary new wingmen should be assigned. If one plane from wing 1 and one plane from wing 2 go down the remaining planes should become wingmen. The crashed planes should pair up back at the aerodrome.
  16. After killing all enemies in area, rinse and repeat.
  17. REMEMBER: On war servers your plane has limited fuel and ammo. Conserve ammo when possible and if you are low . . . head back to the drome with your wingman.
