I resized these images to 200 X 133 so it wouldn't make the table width too wide. I made a tube from part of the side border pattern, then created a custom brush. I used light blue as the background, light peach as the foreground. I had no idea PSP had this feature! Thanks! This would be great for making matching backgrounds, too. |

The first picture was saved as a .jpg file with compression set at 44; size=2193. The second picture was compressed at 15, size=4008. Either one looks acceptable to me, so I would use the smaller .jpg file. I also exported the original size 300"x200" file, at compression of 23. Its size was 5396.
The first picture was saved as a .gif using 23 colors and checking "Standard Web Safe"; size=8592. The second picture used 256 colors, checking "Standard Web Safe", size=10888. Using Colors | Count Colors, the original image had 2,333 colors in it.I don't like the quality of the first one, and the file sizes are much larger than the .jpg files. I also exported the 300"x200" file, and its size was 23,026.
The first picture was saved as a .gif using 39 colors and checking "optimized median cut"; size=7140. The second picture used 75 colors, same option, size=12152. I haven't yet read what optimized median cut or octree mean, or if they should be used in web graphics. I'm just playing with the different options. The quality has definitely improved but the file size became too large.
The snowman below was made on a transparent background with 3 colors: white, dark blue the same as this text, and peach (same as this background, so it isn't visible in the edges of the 3rd figure, a transparent gif :)) When I looked at "count colors" it said the snowman had 4 colors. I guess it adds in a color for the background?![]()
This snowman was saved as a .gif file, using Web Safe Colors, colors set at 256, and 100% dithering. The peach looks kind of pink. Less dithering (more colors) made the image look even more pink instead of peach. Size=2181.

This snowman was saved as a .gif file, using Web Safe Colors, colors set at 23 and 100% dithering. Size=2058. The peach looks normal here. This is the file I would use for the web.

This snowman was saved as a .gif file, checking Optimized Median Cut, colors set at 25. Size=1543. Here the peach showed up same as in PSP file format.

This snowman was saved as a .gif file, checking Optimized Median Cut, colors set at 23. Size=1543. Here the peach shows up as green, using 2 colors less than above example, even though the image only had 4 colors to start with.

This snowman was saved as a .jpg file, compression of 44, size=2099. The colors are pretty true, but there is quite a bit of distortion.

This snowman was saved as a .jpg file, compression of 1, size=5976, a lot of download time. Will the peach look peach to everyone regardless of browser and display settings?
