Hello Corky, Nice site and an interesting project. Did you consider swapping out the LED's with a IR Led and an Ir detector to give the little guy some obstacle detection capability? Seem's like it just might work. Let me know if you decide to give it a shot. Cheers! Rick Redman

Finally!! A robot that is inexpensive and COOL! I was thinking of getting a kit, but now? "dont think so" lol. I want to copy your design. Wont need the servo for the head but everything else is cool.I have an old commodore 64. Can I use any parts from th t? I have no idea about the programming as I am just getting into this robotics thing. This is the hobby that is perfect for me because my car is getting too expensive. Any sites that will teach the basics for the beginner? Thanx! Dallas Bohun

great robot, very simple for what it can do. i like the 556 idea especially. though this might interest you: i made the same motor driver but instead of mouting the chips on a board, i bend some of the pins around and piggy backed the chips. clip pins , 4, 10, and 13 from both chips, bend pins 3, 7, 11, and 14 up on one chip (bottom chip) and pins 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 12 up on the other chip (top). the chips can now be piggy backed. solder the overlapping contacts together and run some wire inbetween a d on the top and bottom and you've got an entire driver with a footprint no larger than the original 556. :)

I don't know if my volume control is down or if it's just the animation. There are some animation sites online that I saw on TV but I can't remember what they are. Have fun!

Hello! Neat little robot. Love the doll head, and the little Lego guy for copilot. I belong to the San Francisco robot club, and have built a sumo robot, a remote controlled flame thrower, and an animatronic robot called maxwell that has lip sync and u es the same servos that you use. Great little devices, eh? If you just had the remote motion, that would be dull, but throw on a doll head with glowing red eyes and you get Wow!

Cute little minimalist robot. Thank you for posting the construction details. With Halloween coming up, I've been thinking about something I could build for the kids, perhaps a little ghost that would wave its arms and blink LED eyes on command. Your robot looks like a good starting point for that. Thanks again. Tom
