Call it a small-time writer's dream come true. Call it the far-flung ideas of some eurdite bard o' the web. Call it whatever you want, but should the day come that Egypt hits the big screen, here are the casting calls.
VOREN NA'AL
Robert Redford as Captain Voren Na'al. Perhaps...this would be a neat role to see an actor of his caliber in. True, many Bajorans are rather aggressive, but the character of Na'al is calm enough, as a captain, that Redford would play a rather convincing Voren. (And, with all due respect, forget any of Peter Davids Bull s***, Voren was THE FIRST alien captain in Starfleet as a major character!) Other casting calls for this role: Jeremy Irons, George Clooney (Perhaps this would save him from Batmanitis...) and Micheal Tonnegan.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Commander Mara Exar. Her character on Seinfeld is rather sarcastic, but if this actor was cast for the role of butt-kicking aggressive second-in-comand, I could easily see it play well. However, perhaps a new haircut? Ah, well, one can never be sure in Starfleet as to what hair becomes... (Bad pun in Picard's direction.) Other casting calls? Demi Moore perhaps, or Kim Catrall.
Jeff Goldblum as Chief Engineer Don Maxwell. Goldblum has played some GREAT roles, as I'm sure many movie fans would agree, in recent years. From two stints as Malcolm, to David Levinson in ID4, and even his roles before that...This guy would be great for cranking out technical jargon while at the same time presenting a complex and interesting character. Perhaps other actors in this role? John Malkovich, Joe Kucan.
Vanessa Angel as Counselor Jerrica Adams. I don't see why not...she could be moved to act as Jerrica in the "movie." Vanessa Angel's career thus far has been a bit lighthearted, so why not try a little trek? Besides, sometimes some straightforwards woman sense can help. Just look at Deanna throughout First Contact. She was having fun, and held a good role in the film. With the different parts for Jerrica in these stories, this would be a great "expansion" role for Angel. Other casting calls: Undecided.
Leonardo DiCaprio as Bobby Squit. Perhaps this is overkill. However, he was good in The Basketball Diaries, and I'd like to see someone like Wesley (i.e., YOUNG) back in the helm position. Other casting calls? Jeff Lewis-Finch, David Schwimmer.
Mira Sorvino as the Bolian Science officer Cheval. I can respect an actor like Sorvino in this role for two reasons: She hasn't done ALL lighthearted films, and has starred along side Redford before, AND...her pa, Paul Sorvino, was Worf's brother in a Seventh season episode of TNG. Other Casting calls: Milla Jovavich?
David Duchovny as Doctor Evan Palatino. PLEASE, X-Files fans, do NOT pile me with E-mail about how Duchovny would never succumb to a Trek movie-why not? Maybe it would only be a one movie stint for him, anyway. I like him as an actor, and would like to see him in a role like that of the silent near-sociopath that the Doctor Palatino is. It's kind of a complex role which I haven't developed much, but he would fit the cake in my mind's eye. (Pardon the over-metaphored sentence.) Other actors here: The actor who played Ensign Seuter on Voyager, (name?) or maybe Nicholas Cage.
Lawrence Fishburne as Security Chief Widiam Baahling. This actor is definitely one cool guy. He flexed his muscles and comedic skills in Fled and flexed his Shakespeare brain in Othello. Although a majority of Baahling's character is otherwise silent, Fishburne would play a great Baahiling, the silent tombstone of a man who is always prepared to take action. Other Casting calls here: Wesley Snipes, Danel Patterson.
Well, should this ever hit the big screen, meet the cast of the USS Egypt. Cool, corny, or incredible? You decide. Tell me what ya think, everyone.
