IS Megazeux Dead?

Is Megazeux dead? Hardly. Hell, ZZT isn't dead yet, to judge from what recent releases exist on AOL alone. Neither ZZT or Megazeux will be dead until no one is doing anything for them. Yet, look at the spate of recent ZZT games - some of them quite good. Look at the somewhat lesser amount of recent MZX games, almost all good, with a few excellent ones. Clearly, no where near dead. MZX will not be dead until MZX World and the stockpile is dismantled, all of us delete MZX from our hard drives, and we mindwipe everyone who ever worked on it's code. Until then, it's just pining for the fjords, as Monty Python might say.

_IS_ MegaZeux Dead? No. MegaZeux is still extremely popular, many people are still making games, and lots more are playing them.

_IS_ MegaZeux suffering because of the childish actions of some people? Yes. Many of those mentioned above are being driven away by general rudeness, hate, etc.

Of course, that particular problem is mainly contained on IRC, so if you can keep yourself from chatting, you will probably have no trouble in the MegaZeux community.

Afraid not. MegaZeux is more alive than ever. Just the people using MZX are dead. MZX game releases are few and far between, and those that are released are well- a little under current expectation. I think that MZX'ers have grown too selective for things like FMV and s00per d00per special effects. In reality, it is very difficult to implement these features into working games without hogging up counters, character files, or palette files. I think that in order for MZX to surge back into life, the MZX'ers must start making games that can be done on a believable scale. People are trying to do things with MZX that MZX can't do very well, at least in a full length game. I'm sure that once people go back to the basics, ANSI, standard CHR animations, smiley faces, and more thought on the plot, instead of glamour, MZX will prolly get a new flow of games, that all can enjoy.

I personally do not believe that something like Megazeux can just die out. I have seen stuff like this before and all is not lost, it just seems like a lot of people have forgotten what it was like about a year or two ago. Megazeux was still fairly young, and people showed genuine appreciation, but like most things people begin to want more, they got greedy. Ok, I'll have to admit with all the people that have left Megazeux, including its creator, things may look bleak but all people have to do is show some respect, compassion, you just can't give up just because others have, it is possible for Megazeux to recover from its depression, you just have to remember how things were, and try to make them that way again.
