Sanosuke, an Ex-Gangster known as "Zanza". Originally a member of the Sekihoutai group, he deeply respect the leader of the Sekihoutai, Sagara Souzou. After the Sekihoutai group was annihilated Ishin Shishi (a scam) and the leader Sagara Souzou was killed, Sano came to hate the Ishin Shishi and vowed to take revenge.

Arriving in Tokyo, he fought everyday to forget the past......Then paid by Gohei to take Kenshin's life, he was taking this as a personal matter since Kenshin used to be a Ishin Shishi, but as you know what Sano is made of.

Kenshin defeated him easily and he was convinced that Kenshin only fight to protect people like what the leader of Sekihoutai was trying to do. Then he gave up his gangsterism lifestyle and eventually living together with Kenshin and others.
