HEX EDITING

First off, I take no responsibilty for any damage you may cause to your game or computer by following these instructions for hex editing. I also do not recommend you do this until you have finished the game honestly, otherwise you'll take the challenge and the fun out of it.

Okay, enough of the disclaimer stuff.

Step 1.) Aquire a hex editing program. There are several free ones for download. Try going to C/NET and do a search on "hex editor". Download it and set it up.

Step 2.) Decide which save game you are going to edit- it has to be on a slot that you have saved a game on. In Privateer 2 slot one is GAME00.IFF, slot two is GAME01.IFF, etc. Make a backup copy of the save game file in case you screw this up. Don't edit your primary save game file which you have struggled to get ahead in without making a back-up copy. Better yet, start a new game and save it on a new slot and edit this one.

Step 3.) Find out how much spare money you have in that particular save game slot and remember it exactly.

Step 4.)Open the save game with the hex editor.

Step 5.) Convert the amount of money you have from Decimal to Hex- hopefully the Hex Editor you downloaded came with a hex calculator feature- if it didn't, download a different one. An example of a decimal to hex conversion is 23173(decimal)=5A85(Hex). Use this to check to see if you are doing it right. Next switch the digits around so the first two become the last two- 5A85=855A.

Step 6.) Okay, now do a search or find for the Hex number you came up with- this will be in the save game two times. Change this to something like EE EE EE. Make sure you edit both entries with this.

Step 7.) Now save the file and try the game out- loading the save game. You should now have a substantial amount of money.

FINAL- I have not thoroughly tested this for a long period of time so it may have unpredicatable results (game crashes,etc). If it does crash, try giving youself less money. Also, keep in mind that one of the factors this game adjusts difficulty levels with is how much cash you have, so.....when you increase your money this increases the difficulty of the game play significantly.

Okay, don't want to mess with hex editing? Here's what you're looking for- cheat codes. During spaceflight, enter the nav screen by pressing ALT N, hit the F key, then enter one one the following codes, hit enter, and exit the nav screen.

PETY PETY -refill afterburner fuel.

NAPALM -gives you 10 nukes.

NO TALENT -god mode.

REP ME UP -repairs everything.

CHILL OUT -cools weapons down.

These codes reset when you land.
