Joe and I were at Wal-Mart, and he kept on saying, 'ooh, look at that one' while we were in the fishing section. I subsequently made fun of him being attracted to bright colors.
But the same can be said about women. Beware women in red, or other bright colors that make them stand out in a crowd. Only dangerous, aka easy, or rather, fertile, women draw attention to themselves like that.
Aside from that though, what are the characteristics of females that all males in all societies pay attention to? And why?
I realize that ideal proportions will differ with time and place, thus the phrasing of the above.
The criteria we use to select mates is ultimately functional. Furthermore, the traits we look for in a mate are the traits we believe will make our offspring more viable in the Real WorldTM.
Physical attraction is important. It's typically the first kind of attraction between two people slash strangers. But why are 'hot', or physically attractive, women so desirable? Because people who are more physically attractive are treated better, or more likely to perceived as successful, than people who are less physically attractive. This is a given. And, consequently, the offspring of more physically attractive persons are more viable.
I think that humans as a species are designed to do one thing well, and that's to run, particularly, to run from predators slash animals. The legs and buttocks make a powerful combination in the field, or off, for that matter (buttocks particularly). Why mate with someone who'll be eaten during the next animal attack?
You don't have to be the fastest, you simply have to be faster than the slowest person.
The breast's function in childrearing is an obvious one. And I suspect they are the best pillows currently available. Are women designed to bring comfort to men in this way? I definitely think so.
I do not know if most men realize this or not, but I think that the contrast, or the shape formed by the combination, of the hips and the waist, is really what makes one woman appear more attractive than another. There is something about a woman with noticeably wide hips. The hips are obviously functional in the childbearing sense.
It is certainly debatable what intelligence is, but whatever it is, it continues to be of increasing importance in a world where being the fastest or strongest does not guarantee survival.
There's nothing like a hot woman singing. Perhaps it is seductive? Or pacifying (for both males and offspring?)? Regardless, intangible traits sets one female apart from others. Perhaps the reason talented females are in demand is related to this society's focus on 'individuality' or being 'special.' Or is it simply that 'exceptional mates produce exceptional offspring,' and thus giving the latter group an advantage?
'How to win friends and influence people' was written by Some Rich Guy. He was rich for a reason. Who knows what it was? Maybe for writing the book. But it goes without saying that social skills are important to have in order to be successful. If one's mate is not genetically endowed with these skills, then they can be passed on socially.
