Windows 95 is now dead! I'm never going to have to use it ever again! Sort of...

The Story

Like I said earlier, I have to use Windows 95 because it's the only operating system I have that works with my printer! Well, I was wrong! After looking through the sparse documentation for my printer and a little trial and error, I was able to find a printer driver that works with Windows NT! See, they made a little consideration for DOS and gave two suggestions on possibly compatible drivers. And guess what? One of them worked for NT! You know I'm happy than I'll never have to use Wincrap 95 ever again... well, sort of.

The sort of part comes at least temporarily. See, I'm getting my internet access via AOHell. Unfortunately, with AOHell's propriety software, I can't use the 32-bit version on Windows NT! This means I'm stuck with the 16-bit AOHell, and the 16-bit Winsock! And for those of you who know me, I can't live without Internet access. And since I'm sort of used to AOL (if you know what I mean) and don't feel like looking for a local ISP and am not willing to try another national ISP that also tries to log me off when I'm downloading a large file... well, suffice it to say, I'm sticking with it, until, of course, I start using Linux or FreeBSD as my primary operating system.

So what are the consequences of this? Well, I'm going to have to use 16-bit Winsock apps. It's not hard finding 16-bit versions of the programs I have, since smart programmers (they're the ones who make the good programs, and I only use good programs) know to make 16-bit and 32-bit versions of their programs, but I'm going to have to sacrifice a little backwards compatibility here, especially with NT, as well as some disk space because I'll be keeping both 32-bit and 16-bit versions of the winsock apps I do have. At least in NT, one application can't crash all the others like one DOS-based operating system I know of...

It's just a matter of time until I delete my Windows 95 partition. BTW, you're all invited to the party!
