I lived most of my life in Zhitomir. This is an old Ukrainian city. The first notes about them appeared in year 884. This is its official year of birth, which is celebrated on the second Sunday in September. It's located 130 km west from Kiev on the banks of the Teterev river in a place where granite rocks appeared on the earth surface making the site very beautiful.
The city itself must have been quite nice. However during the World War II it has been almost completely destroyed. Probably the only site of interest that has survived is the 18th century Orthodox Cathedral, which was at that time the highes building in the town. Who's brave enough after that to argue that there's no God!
Unfortunatelly, I couldn't find on the Net any site that devoted to Zhitomir. This page is my modest effort to establish at least some on-line presense of my native city. Quite possibly, soon I'll do something more substantial so be sure to visit this page regularly.

Good luck!
