I am (what I think is) a normal young woman from Toronto.
But I have found out that you are not normal if you like computers and are female... Yes, I'm a female Quake player. Surprised? You shouldn't be.
The first thing that seems to appear in a boy's /guy's head is how you look... Like they expect you to be ugly just because you like computers.
I do a lot of other non-typical girl things, like playing computer games... A lot... Especially Quake. I am also a certified IT professional, for UNIX, and Windoze systems, like NT(ugh!)seriously!
I do have a feminine side too ... I have long legs... :-)
Why do I call myself Spiderlilly (actually SpiderBAT)? and what does it mean?
I made it up out of my head.. it exemplifies my cultural heritage.. I have been meditating since I was seven ("lilly" rolls off the tongue better than lotus)... and Anansie is a popular folklore character in the West Indies-- yes he's a spider.


My first experience with Quake occurred last summer when I was working on some online stuff and my resumé, as I was at a downtown cybercafé one Friday afternoon. Apparenlty there was suposed to be a Quake tournament, where everyone(well, not everyone) on their computers in the café play against each other on the LAN in the hopes of winning some free time. I decided to play. My first tournament battle came and I had not yet fully mastered all the tricks to moving around in the game. I mean, I can't remember how long it took me to realize that once you die you just click and get right back in the action.. I kept rejoining . Having never played a 3D first-person shooter game before, I was a sitting duck. That is where I learned the #1 rule of Quake-- never stop moving.

On the Internet, smart-ass login names like JAKE RIPGUT and OhMyLiver abound.

I am considered a woman with gaming skill, and sometimes I have been noted to stress my gender as I virtually annihilate some sexist competitors who may be posting obnoxious messages. When they realize that I am a female, and I am kicking their a$$, the normal reaction I get is for them to shut the hell up.
"What, can't face the fact that you suck?"
But.. another reaction I get is for them to say' "Oh, you can't be a girl if you talk like that."
(sigh)....
So I normally react with "Oh REALLY.. and exactly HOW is a GIRL supposed to sound like, you chauvinist pig?" and I add taunts like "oink oink", and a few more *cough* choice words..
THAT normally does the trick.

Then, it happened:- I started to play NightHunters......
I was searching for some other servers, just to try them out.. I didn't know there were different mods!.... and the BatCave came up as one of the servers in Ontario. (add more)
The first time I went in the Cave I was asking "Is it supposed to be this dark?" and I shot marines,.. and of course I got the auto-boot. So, instead of using the name I originally used for DM, KISS ME{EVIL}, I used my e-mail name Spiderlilly, 'cause I thought some1 there didn't like me..
Luckily, there was a point where there were only two of us on the server, me and BatCat... and he taught me how to play. Guess what. I thought it was supremely fun... like most ppl when they get the hang of the game... and was hooked.
And the rest is history.
Oh yeah. Rule #2: don't even turn your light on when BatCat is the predator. Better to just dive headlong into the lava than have him kill you.... ! :-) !
I am the ASCII artist in my clan, as I regularly dress the screen with any of my new inspirations.. BUT I don't flood the screen...
If someone is being sexist, especially when they are in the batcave, MY home, I give as well I get. But be careful.. If someone is being an idiot in the batcave, and I ask BatCat to kick them, or if he already feels like it, he probably will... (and if he also feels like it he'll probably throw in an IP ban).
You may also notice that I normally rank from 2nd to 4th in the world in the CLQ ratings for NightHunters on any given regular week...
Although don't even HOPE to kick ^^o^^ BatCat out of 1st place.. he's always there... :-(

I still have the list of servers I found. I stopped dead at NightHunters. Maybe one day I'll get around to trying the others out! ... :-)
