If you don't have a HP CD-Writer yet, but are looking into it:

Please, we beg you. Avoid it at all cost! Don't let our experience become yours. HP never has the capability to produce CD-Writer (4020, 6020, 7110 to 7200, all drives are actually made by Philips), why do you expect they are able to support it? At least check out Usenet group comp.publish.cdrom.hardware for users' experience. Yamaha and SONY make some much better CD-Writers.

If you own a HP 4020i, and it still under warranty:

You are lucky, but you have to act quick. Call HP for replace with other model, or better yet, a refund! They did that before. So if they tell you its not their procedure, they are lying! And that's a sign to tell you what kind of support you are going to get when you are out of luck. So don't be lazy, even its a toll call (ever wonder why?) call them now is much cheaper then do it later.

Here is HP's support contact:
Tel: (970) 635-1500
Fax: (970) 667-0997
e-Mail: SureStore_Support@HP-Loveland-om10.om.hp.com

If you are an abandoned HP 4020i user:

Don't give up, you paid the premium for the drive, you paid their engineer's salary to make current generation CD-Writer possible. Why do you deserve this? HP should have had a recall on HP 4020i in the first place, and now they tell us to get lost? Don't accept it! Send your complaint and address of this page to every employees of HP you know. Send to their marketing department (sales person are usually more care customer response than actual customer service person), service department etc. Someone is going to be responsible for this, but it will never be customers!
