A Story from Madura Island
Once, there lived a king in Madura island who had 3 sons. One of them will be the heir of Madura island in the next time.
When the time came, the king ask a question from his three sons, "How great is your love to the people, so that you can reign over them with compassion?"
The first son answered, "As high as the highest mountain, that's my love to the people."
The second replied, "As high as the sky above the earth, that's my love to the people."
The third said, "My love to the people is just like salt to them."
After this, the king asked for the responsibility for their answer. He asked the first prince, "Why do you choose the mountain as your love to the people? Have you seen the mountain?"
"No," the first prince answered, "but ...."
The king continued, "So, how could you love the people if you haven't even known your own love?"
Then he asked the second prince, "Why do you choose the sky as your love benchmark? Have you been there and measure the height?"
"No," he answered, "but ...."
"Then how could you love your people with the height if even you haven't known it yet?"
The first and the second princes failed to fulfill their responsibility. Then the king asked his third son, "Why did you choose salt as the sign of your love for the people?" He answered, "Because the salt if so common to the people and they can taste it every day without which their food will be insipid and not tasty."
The king answered, "How wise you are! Your love is so common to the people. Then here is the kingdom and the island for you." And the king gave his third son his kingdom and to replace his throne.
_______
Don't think to high to do what you cannot do. Only do what you are supposed to do for the kingdom of God. If you do what you can do, the things you haven't been able to do will be bestowed to you too. The things you can do is the gateway to the things you cannot do.
Be the salt to the world and you will be heirs of the kingdom of God.
13"You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste (its strength, its quality), how can its saltness be restored? It is not good for anything any longer but to be thrown out and trodden underfoot by men. - Matthew 5.13
