A PICTURE TOUR
by
GEORGE RICHARDSON

(I recently received a series of emails with pictures attached from George. They are presented here for your viewing pleasure. Please accept my apologies for the pictures not being as crisp and clear as they were as received from George. However, the files as received were between 350-750KB in size. In order to save download time for those of us still using the "old fasioned" 56K modems, I reduced them to 15-28KB. I think they still tell the story. Bill Hill)

I spent a little time wandering around 'the area' last Saturday. It's funny, I work less than a mile from there, but I never go by that way.

After having lunch with Clyde Blanchard last week and being disappointed for the second time as one of our old favorite places for lunch had gone out of business, I decided that this area is changing too fast, and needs to be preserved photographically. I decided to spend some time recording those changes.

If anyone has any photo requests and I can do them, send an email to georich1@pacbell.net

As you look south from 101 down Mathilda Ave, remember the sequence -
on the left, Denny's (old timers remember it as Sambo's), a Shell station,  a farmer's field full of tomatoes, the Dairy Belle, a filling station and San Aleso Ave (where the traffic light can be seen now) and on the right was the Bold Knight.

Denny's and Shell are still there, but the farmer probably became another Silicon Valley Millionaire selling out to the Larkspur Motel.

GREAT STOMACH WRENCHING GUT BOMBS!
The Dairy Belle still lives. Sort of dwarfed by the motel. A filling station is still on the corner.

The Bold Knight is "sort of" still there. Doesn't look like it is anywhere near our memories.
