Typical Day of a Civil War Soldier

Non-Battle Day Schedule
6:00 AM: Soldiers awaken and each a meager breakfast of black coffee and two pieces of hard tack.
7:30 AM: Soldiers begin drilling on a field near camp, practicing marching and weapon loading and firing.
10:30 AM: Break for lunch (hard tack and coffee again) and to clean weapons.
2:00 PM: Drilling Continues.
5:00 PM: Break for dinner, which consisted of coffee, hard tack, and occationally some meat or vegetables
6:00 PM: After dinner soldiers would gather around the campfire to relax and sing songs, write letters, or the like.

Battle Day Schedule
6:00 AM: Soldiers awaken and, if time permits, eat a quick breakfast of coffee and hard tack.
7:30 AM: Soldiers prepare for battle- this often included preparing ammunition, writing a "last letter", and marching to the battlefield if neccesary
Battles almost always ended by sundown, after which soldiers would march back to camp and eat dinner, and then try to relax by the fire, while trying not to think about any friends who were killed in the days battle.
