Food is always one of the foci of our traveling. Bali did not offer very exceptional dinning experience but we do want to highlight a couple good spots. If you want to enjoy a nice and more upscale dinner, try Poppies. It would be best if you book ahead and ask for a table in their garden. You can enjoy a nice private dinner in the cool open air and listen to a small stream’s murmur as it twirls through the garden.
If you want to try some thing really local, you need to sneak in to a local shop for their roasted suckling pig. The real local shop sell only the pig and only at lunch, so you have to be there between noon to 1 pm. There is no menu but you can choose which parts (including internal organs and blood) of the pig you want. It will come with a soup and some rice. The meal cost about US$2 per person. The picture shows Rosa, Yopi (our excellent pointer around town), the shop owner and myself.
No one should miss the excellent seafood in Bali. One of the best way to savour the seafood is to go to Jimbaran beach. Along this long stretch of beautiful sand and ocean, you can find many “cafes” offering grilled seafood. Our choices were shrimps, snapper and lobster at Lia Cafe. Try to be at the beach before sunset and you will able to enjoy the famous Bali sunset at the same time.
