welcome. this is my page, obviously, where i crawl cozily into my alotted web space and wax philisophical about the delightful-yet-defunct band - the pixies.

they truly were one of the most influential bands of the eighties. they emerged from the rotten swill and synth-pop that america loved to love so much. they took all the bullshit musical ability and threw it out the window. this is not to say they could not play their instruments though. they simply knew that it's not the difficulty of what you play as much as the sound that you produce. this is what the pixies brought - new sound. they brought together hard-core acoustic punk, sixties surf, and a frantic mindset as obvious in songs like "santo" and "oh my golly!" black francis could manage to migrate from a pleasant croon to a piercing shriek in no time flat.

where would we be without the pixies influence? guitar players would still be sitting at home drilling through their major scales and modes trying to figure out something pointlessly difficult to play. to digress to a previous subject, many bands today would sacrifice a good sound just to show off the complicated material they can play without the wise influence of the pixies. without them we wouldn't even have nirvana's "smells like teen spirit," a song and sound that would end up defining most of the music of the nineties. cobain specifically cited the pixies' "gouge away" as an inspiration for that song.

well, i'm sure you are sick of hearing me rant about them, so, if you will, take some time to peruse my humble homage to my favorite band of all time.

thanks,
david r

"Velouria Live," "All Over the World," "The Dream is over," and "Situation Red" I got from Kiss The Stone Records. Unfortunately they were recently shut down ( about 2 weeks after I got my CDs). I'm always looking for more but they're getting even harder to find. I think I came a little to late. The first time I even heard the Pixies was two years after they broke up.

Also if you know of a graphic of a spaceman that is rendered much in the fasion of the Trompe Le Monde art please send it to me. It was on the back of a shirt they sold when they opened for U2 in the Early 90's. Please send it.

Cute stuff

As some of you may not know, Debaser is about the movie Un Chien Andalou by Salvador Dali and Louis Bunuel. The scene above shows the "slicing up eyeballs part." In the movie an ox eye was actually used to be sliced through though. Also, the "girlie so groovy" part comes from where a man is checkin' out some chick and his eyes roll into his head and blood comes out of his mouth. Pretty neat hmmmm.

Pictures of the band donated by one of their adoring fans.

a Big pic of the band. Quite large, but good.

Fun with the pixies. pretty cheesy.

It's a bunch o' pretty gifs and jpegs from 4ad's page. In all honesty, i guess this might be considered stealing being that i just linked directly to 4ad's site for these images. hope they don't mind. They were all pretty big so I didn't feel like putting them on here. Pretty handy if you dont want to wade through Evo's directories and such. There's some other stuff down at the bottom that might be useful to any Pixies aficionado.
